I just found one my dogs hanging from a fence. It's still alive but one of it's eyes is now protruding out of it's socket. I tried to push it back in a little but I got scared and I don't want to damage it. Is this something that will go away on its own? Or am I being to scared and can push it in on my own? I can't really afford a vet right now, but will if need be.
Just go to any emergency animal hospital right now. FR will pay the bill. Count me in.
If you choose to keep a dog, you are responsible for taking care of it. That means that you need to take him to the vet when he is injured. So go do it now. And please let us know the outcome.
Some people?
Prayers for your pup!
Don’t worry, it will grow a new one.
Thanks Kanawa. And please keep us up to date.
I will chip in too. Please keep us posted. Prayers for your pup. Please take the best care.
Classy.
I FReepmailed the poster, but in case a_f is overwhelmed by responses, would you keep me apprised? I wanna kick in too.
Please let us know how things turn out with your dog. I’m in the Phoenix area and could chip in for the bill.
Thanks for all of the concern,Heras eye is fine. The vet pushed it in and gave her a steroid shot and put some eye medicine. Nothing seems to be wrong with it, just a little red around the edges.
To those who ask how this happened:
First of all I do not use chains and the dog is an inside dog that goes outside for the restroom. The dog is a pug that likes to climb stuff, I put up a new fense to protect the garden and the pug decided it would attempt to climb it. Hera got near the top but got her collar stuck on the latch and slipped, essentially hanging herself. I guess pugs do not have the same bone structure that most long nosed breeds have that prevent the eye from being popped out.
Thanks for all of the offers for financial help, I appreciate it, but I can afford it next month, which the vet obliged me with deferred payment. The bill is only 300 dollars.
Also this is to those who question my going online looking for help, I am not afraid of getting dirty and doing things myself. Hera was not in pain and oft times I have found out some things can be done yourself. Take Zeus for example, my other pug. His anus occasionally protrudes after using the bathroom. The first time it happened I took him to the vet, the vet told me it was relatively harmless as long as I am able to push it back in and it causes no pain to him. So thats what I do. Now unless the dogs life is in immediate danger I check online or call experts first, I know many of you hardcore animals lovers do the vet first and ask questions later thing but I am of the mind that if it is safe to do yourself, then by golly I will do it myself. Crucify me if you will.
I only wanted to know because I was afraid some lowlife had hung your dog up on purpose. I am not going to call you a bad dog owner.
Or think it.
Glad everything’s okay.
Aft , I am happy and relieved to hear about your dog. This is truly good news.
Good job aft... I’m glad your pooch is ok!
good news! thanks for the update.
There must be something in the weather, I have had two pugs with proptosed eyes the last week; one did good, the other not so good. The one that didn't was one the owner waited several hours to present it and the eye ulcerated and developed iris prolapse.
Anyway... I hope this episode won't put too much of a crimp in your lifestyle. Cheers!
“Crucify me if you will.”
No one is going to “crucify” you; just offering help. Glad your dog is going to be O.K. That experience would have panicked me. If your vet is O.K. with you paying him/her next month, great! I was going to suggest checking with your local humane society. Some have vets that will do the work for free or at a greatly reduced price. If you are comfortable with your current vet, that’s good, but if not, you may want to check with your local humane society anyway for any future emergency or veterinary needs.
Get the dog to the vet ASAP.
Prayers for the dog.
