Bob Barker Says Rosie O'Donnell Could Replace Him (hosting "The Price is Right")
AOL News ^ | June 16, 2007

Bob Barker endorsed his friend Rosie O'Donnell as a possible successor on "The Price Is Right," although the newly retired host isn't sure CBS wants a woman to take over the game show.

"I believe they're going to have a meeting with Rosie," Barker said backstage Friday night at the Daytime Emmy Awards, where he won his 19th trophy.

"She knows the show," he said. "There's no doubt in my mind she could do the show. Now, whether they want a lady host, I don't know. I've never heard that discussed. As far as I know, they've only auditioned men."

Barker said his friendship with O'Donnell goes back several years, when she had him as a guest on her old daytime talk show.

"She told me she loved `The Price Is Right' and wanted to host it one day," he recalled.

When anyone like Barker supports Peta, they accept their mantras and beliefs. Peta constantly tries to shoves their beliefs down everyone’s throats, they equate animals with humans and they demonize anyone who doesn’t agree with them. They are terrorists in that they break in to private property and destroy anything they see as causing harm to animals even if it means the lives of humans. They have also caused the deaths of many animals when they “release” them into the wild, not thinking for a moment they cannot survive out there. They are hypocrates in the extreme.

He's NOT an "uber-lib". I've been a fan of his for thirty years and with an exception of animal issues, I'd be hard pressed to tell you what his positions are on any political issue. That's how celebrities should be. Speak up for your one or two big issues and otherwise keep your mouth shut.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I'm no fan of PETA, but unlike most lefty organizations, they at least do some good. As far as I'm concerned, Bob is and always will be the f@$%in' man.

Contestants will now have to take an oath stating that they are not conservative and have never been a member of the Republican party, before Rosie will let them play.

There's no doubt in my mind she could do the show.

I would think there is a virtually unlimited number of people, male and female, who could do the show. However, I thought the point was to select the person who would attract the most viewers. This observation assumes ad revenue is more important than the political position of the host.

I’m a libertarian/conservative and frankly I tend to think more of dogs in general than I do humans.”

I like my dogs better, also.
I take them with me in the station wagon or in the truck with a camper shell whenever I can.
Now the legislature here in Nevada has passed a law that dogs or cats cannot be left in a car. I leave multiple windows open and a 2 or 5 gallon bucket of water with them while I grocery shop, etc. Now I face jail, loss of my dogs, and a fine of $1000 if I do what I have done with my dongs ALL of my long life.
The only place I can leave them is in the garage, and it is plenty hot in there. Much hotter than my vehicle.
Good thing the lawmakers are telling me how to care for my dogs, eh?

I am going on record that IF they hire Rosie to replace Bob, the show will be gone in 6 months.
There is a great part of the PRICE IS RIGHT audience that is middle America, older, church-going ladies. They have been loyal for all 35 years.
They will NOT tolerate Rosie for a NY minute.
The staff behind the scenes will not tolerate her tirades and temper, either.
I predict no more than 6 months, IF that. Let me know who starts the wagering pool.

Stick a fork in it, the Price is right is finished.

Maybe not. That's what they thought would happen when Pat Sayjack (sp) replaced whathisface on Wheel of Fortune. It just aint' gonna be Rosie that's for dang sure. She's too well known for flying off the handle and/or going ballistic. They need a stable person to fill Bobs shoes.

Giving animals due consideration-- concerning oneself with the welfare of animals--- is of course compatible with conservatism.

“Animal rights” is, on the other hand, by definition leftist. Rights flow from, in the typical libertarian understanding, the ability take responsibility for one’s actions. For the typical conservative, rights come from the fact that we are each made in the image of God. It’s sometimes hard to see how these two conceptions may be made compatible with one another, but for the most part the tension between them is a productive one that has led to a large part of the level of civilization the United States can claim.

One must be suspicious, therefore, when rights talk is taken out of this context...

Positive rights-— i.e. a right to health care, a right to a living wage-— are by definition leftist.

Rights for those who cannot even under the best conditions take responsibility for their actions are by definition leftist unless said rights are severely limited to, say, the right to life, the foundation of all rights.

This is why “the rights of the child” are by definition leftist. Obviously, children have some rights, such as a right to life. But a child generally is not held responsible for his actions and so does not have rights to the same extent as an adult.

Animals lack even the most basic right, the right to life. How then can animals be said to have any other rights in any conservative conception?

The anti-fur lobby that Bob Barker represents have in particular been bullies in typical leftist fashion.

Sad story but a great post. That's a terrific example of how "rights" for animals become rights for those in the government to enlarge their own power, just as Marian Wright Edelman knew "children's rights" would help her expand the welfare state.

I guess so. You know who I ran into the other day on Melrose Ave, in LA?

Monte Hall. He looked a bit old and was walking with a cane.

If Rosie gets the gig, I am sure we will see a difference in the products and prizes. Massengill disposable douches will be substituted for the Mr. Coffee coffee makers. When the announcer says “A NEW CAR!” it will be some kind of lame-ass hybrid instead of a Mustang or a Corvette. Vacations to Cancun or the Swiss Alps will be swapped out for Key West and San Francisco. They will keep the Rice-a-Roni... it is the “San Francisco Treat!”
