Anyone notice the new pet at the Bing? The cat? You know, nine lives and all that. Anyway, when Tony asks about Phil, the guy from New York tells Tony,"You gotta' do what you gotta' do". Then, with Phil out, it would make no sense for another hit.
Anyway to have Tony go out with a bang would be so 70's.

It was in the first episode of this half season (season 6.5) when Tony was spending the weekend at Bobby’s place. The conversation took place on Bobby’s little boat out on the lake.
To: MarkL
Yes but “the end” doesn’t refer to Bobby’s life. He wasn’t terribly significant to the show. “The end” referred to Tony’s life and thus the life of the series as well.

Tony's life as he knows it is ending.
His old gang almost all gone. His family can move on to their new careers while Tony faces certain prison with indictments and a turncoat testifying.
He would probably welcome getting whacked now as the best way out.

actually, I don’t think paulie hated christopher. He treated christopher like a kid and he was an uncle or a father figure. paulie’s problem was that he talked too damn much.

‘Suckers. I gave up on the show around season 4. Those unending hiatus periods with crap seasons that followed were just too much. Yuck.’
Same here, but I did watch the final half dozen shows.
I like the fact Chase lets the viewer play out the final scene’s in their own mind.
Apparently, some find that too much work....(chuckle)

Holsten's Rob, thanks for the link.
Hmmm, I think NJ FReepers need to meet up at Holsten's. Anyone interested?

I should add that my opinion all along has been that Tony is a fairly decent guy trapped (literally) in a really, really, lousy job. He's only decent in comparison to the other killers because he at least cares about his family to some degree. Other than that I think he would be a deranged sociopath even if he were Kevin Finnerty the Heating Supply salesman from Arizona.
PS: That was one of their best episodes ever. Very few people got it.

whose spirit was in the cat? I think it was either christopher or adriana. The cat ate a rat. If Paulie is the rat and set Tony up for what may or not have been his assassination in the end, that might explain his disdain for the cat.
Chase obviously left this open ended and subject to interpretation so that people will debate it for the next 40 years.

I found the A.J. “join the Army” deal strange. Unless there have been radical changes, no on who has been treated for depression, admitted for same or is taking anti-depression medication could enlist.
Odd.
