Immigration Reform
Many of my constituents are interested in reviewing the text of the immigration reform bill that is now under consideration in the Senate. You may read it by clicking here (pdf, 846K).
The process by which the immigration bill was brought to the Senate floor has understandably generated some confusion about which version of reform the Senate is actually considering. The Senate Majority Leader introduced S. 1348, the same bill that the Senate passed last year (a bill that I opposed), as a way to restart the Senates debate regarding immigration reform. The alternative that I helped negotiate would replace the text of S. 1348 in its entirety. If you are interested in reviewing the text of the alternative, you will find it at the link above.

Ping!
Thanks! Don’t think I will be reading it tonight though....lol
NO AMNESTY.
The link, “You may read it by clicking here,” doesn’t work.
Kyl just voted against an amendment by Vitter that would have actually set up a visa program to track when they’re supposed to leave. It went down 48 to 49. Thanks, Kyl.

Sadly, last year’s abomination is actually a BETTER bill than this year’s “compromise” that they are using to replace it.
I don’t know why Kyl can’t see that, or if he’s just scared to death that if they don’t do this terrible bill, the democrats will somehow sneak an even WORSE bill through.
perhaps a better solution is to change the politicians”
If you change the politicians, you still end up with politicians.
I don’t believe there are any honest politicians.
With all due respect Senator, you got played by Senator Kennedy.
When you conceded to Senator Kennedy that tens of millions of low-income, uneducated foreign nationals, the vast majority from only one ethnicity, who illegally entered our country, would be allowed to legally stay and become citizens, and bring their family members here, permanently altering the electoral and demographic makeup in a profound way, you negotiated away the only card that average Americans hold.
Maybe your party will be competitive next election, or the next two elections. But thereafter, you have provided the margin of victory to leftists.
You claim that the liberals could, all by themselves, have passed a worse bill and President Bush would have signed it.
That's not true. It's only because someone like yourself, and certain other prominent Republicans, give cover to this sellout that enough average Americans might believe we really aren't rewarding those who broke our laws and took advantage of our generous nature, with amnesty, that the country might accept it.
Your bill will give the Left a decisive edge that will, within a few elections, allow them to control our legislative and executive branches and ultimately, all three branches of government. (And by the way, they will be in a position to undo whatever provisions you are championing now in the bill that they might decide later they don't like.)
Apologists for amnesty posit a false choice between giving amnesty or "rounding up immediately 12 million illegals and deporting them, which is unworkable." Secure the border and start to aggressively enforce the laws against hiring illegals we have now, and over time, these foreigners will return to their home countries when they realize the United States is actually serious about enforcing its laws. It need not happen overnight; it took us many years to get here, it might take some years to get back; but the important thing is to reverse the trend, and that can be done by a combination of securing the border and law enforcement. Go talk to the editors of National Review; they have some ideas they could share with you.
Just say NO to Amnesty!! Before its too late!!

Sounds like Mr. Kyl is starting to feel the heat.
