Should California ban or place speed limits on lane-splitting by motorcyclists?
Ban all lane-splitting (0 Votes, 0%)
Allow lane-splitting, but set speed limits (0 Votes, 0%)
Allow all lane splitting (1 Vote, 100%)
Note: Scroll down on the homepage a bit and look for the poll on the right side. Vote accordingly.
I'm not a biker, but I always try to move when a biker approaches fron behind during rush hour traffic.
Hell, I figure somebody ought to make out good in this crappy So-Cal traffic.
Hooligan pinglist high-octane ping.

Yes. They are a danger
If you want to lane-split go ahead (it only bothers me because I’m stuck in my car - some people seem to view it as a personal insult). Seems kind of dangerous to me because there are so many bad drivers out there but if you want to do it go ahead.
Motorcycles generally don’t clog traffic - which is good. The vehicles that should be banned are Volvos and VW Buses.
Bumper-to-bumper traffic I don’t really care.
When I’m going down the highway and they come flying by me at 120mph, well they can split the lane all they want but indemnify me if I don’t see them when changing lanes.
FYI, I’ve done that before, but only when traffic was at a standstill. It’s great for getting through heavy city traffic or on the freeway when it’s stopped dead.
People who don’t like it are just jealous because they’re not moving.
I’m not the jealous type. That’s why I am okay with it during rush hour traffic.
Besides...whenever I hear of a new “ban” in California, my skin begins to crawl.
Smells like more nanny-statism...
They should have bag limits on motorcycles while splitting lanes.
Only 3 per day.... and 17 per year.
Remind me to not open my door when stopped in traffic.
:-0
Reminder: don't open your car door when stopped in traffic, or you may lose a door. Some of the newer cruiser-style touring bikes weigh 900 lbs. That will do more than just scratch the finish.

BE the lane.
aw.. what a conundrum for tree huggin liberal hippies..
“no don’t split lanes.. its DANGEROUS, we wanna stop you for your own good”
“don’t just sit there idling and burning gas, and polluting the air.. “
Down here we call it “exclusive lane”.
I'm stunned that it is legal. I still probably wouldn't do it unless I could follow someone else. I would be more likely to use the shoulder, so I wouldn't double the number of fools that could hit me (plus the shoulder isn't typically used at all, while cars change lanes all the time, which further reduces my risks).
The law is fine, the way it is ~ when I lived in CA, I found it very useful, especially when going from the East Bay to SF on the Oakland Bay Bridge.
I was on a Federal Grand Jury in SF and I lived in Berkeley, commuting during rush hour was a snap.
Leave the law alone, it works!!
When I lived there. I split lanes every chance I got! Sure better than burning up my air cooled $10K motor by sitting in stalled traffic!
