ZAGREB (Reuters) - A Croatian man who boarded a night tram and died in his seat rode through the city for more than six hours before the driver discovered he was dead, a Croatian daily reported Monday.

The 61-year old, identified as Tomislav K., boarded a tram shortly before midnight Friday. He soon fell asleep and died as the tram rolled on through the night and most passengers trickled out, the Jutarnji List said.

Toward the morning, he remained the only traveler.

The driver, separated by a glass partition from the rest of the tram, tried to wake him up at the end of his shift and realized he was dead, the daily said.

"Did he ever return, no he never returned,

and his fate is still unlearned

He may ride forever neath the streets of Boston

He's the man who never returned."

This occurs so often on the NYC trains it’s no longer considered news.

So true.Subway riders are annoyed, however, when they are inconvenienced and have to jump over the body to get onto the train.

That’s nothing. If he were in Seattle he’d continue to vote in at least the next four or five elections.

Well, if you’re dead, why shouldn’t you ride the tram all night? No worse than your other options.

My guess is he could have ridden for no more than a day then things would have gotten ripe.

“If he were in Seattle he’d continue to vote in at least the next four or five elections.”

Well we know that would be true in Chicago. Thats how JFK was elected.

The tram story, however, is not so strange. Here in Bratislava, many trams have two cars and the driver
has no way of knowing whats happening in the second car.

Tomislav K.

"K." as in Kafka.

I could tell from the title that this had to be about Europe.

The US lags behind all developed countries in the number of deceased people who ride trams.

Congress should look into what we can do to catch up to the rest of the developed world.
