I have an old Olympus C2100UZ camera that I only use ocassionally, it is approaching cult status as a landmark of digital camera design. When it finally dies I will lose a friend. It appeared around 2000, with a 10X lens and a super image stabilizer, and one of the fastest, surest AF systems ever. Olympus wanted to get about $1200.00 each for them, never met their sales targets and sold off what they had at a discount. These shots both use an Olympus A-200 TC, for a total of 580 mm equivalent. The C2100 is only 2.1MP, but all those pixels are good ones.
COOL!! I’m not familiar with Olympus, we shoot Canon stuff, but those are two great shots.
wonderful pictures!!! I have an UZI and I LOVED it!! Unfortunated it dropped on the porch last year and broke. I was given a nice Sony this year but it’s just not the same.
Those pics are so good you got me looking up bird identification guides;)
How far away from the subject were you when you shot the picture?
If you had to replace this camera with something comparable, what would you purchase?
I’m using a Panasonic DMC FZ20 as a main camera. So far I’ve avoided buying anything over 5 MP, they all seem to have “noise” problems. That being said, a little bit of “noise” is better than an image that has been over softened. 10 or 12X zoom and optical stabilization are fantastic, in particular when you get older and not very steady. I was out 30 or 40 feet on these shots, and steadiness gets very critical. Try to see some shots from what ever you consider, look for fine feather and fur detail as much as color. An over softened image won’t show the tiny details.

My sister lives on a private lake. A pair of bald eagles has lived there for years and have raised young and fished in the lake. She'll need zoom capability as well as image stabilization.
Several cameras were used. I’ve given some to beginners as I got better gear, some just wore out. The Panasonic line is pretty good stuff.
