That potential exists in a lot of places.
For my money the sudden draining of Lake Peigneur in Louisiana was pretty strange but there were no deaths.

this should give you some idea how powerful the CO2 dissolved in that lake is:

No pumps needed - pure CO2 release pressure (that is an 8" diameter pipe)
