Streisand's Rome concert canned amid pricing protests Last Updated: Saturday, May 26, 2007 | 10:53 AM ET CBC Arts
The Rome kickoff to Barbra Streisand's upcoming European tour has apparently been scrapped, amid a brouhaha by Italian consumer groups over high ticket prices for the famed performer's show.
The cancellation of the June 15 show which would have been Streisand's first ever in Italy has nothing to do with the current controversy, a spokeswoman for Concert Promotions International told Reuters.
Organizers cited production difficulties as the reason the Rome concert has been scrapped.
On Streisand's official website Saturday morning, the first stop on her European tour is listed as Vienna, on June 21. Other stops include venues in France, Ireland and the U.K.
Earlier this month, Italian consumer groups Adusbef and Codacons led a protest over the planned show at Rome's 24,000-seat Stadio Flaminio.
The two groups called on the stadium's owner and manager the city government and Italy's Olympic committee, respectively to back out of the concert because tickets were going as high as 900 euros (about $1,315 Cdn).

La Streisand has bills to pay!!! Such as for constant air conditioning turned on in her five palatial houses
It would appear that she can't....
She used to have a nice voice and a few good songs, but sheesh.
I will never get the hype over Streisand.
Why insult a good actor!
How many times is it going to retire, anyway?
How many times is this dumb ass going to retire?
*Snicker*
How many farewell, last-ever, no-this-time-I-really-mean-it concerts is this woman going to have?
Can a 65-year-old voice possibly command top dollar at concerts?
Stifle? I Haven’t heard that word since Archie Bunker.
As many as the “Eagles”.
At least I haven’t heard of the ‘Eagles’ singing anti-Bush songs or telling folk to vote for democrats to save the USSC.
If I knew any anti Bush songs I’d be singing them too. Loudly.
Aw, c’mon, you can make up your own...
Or you can look some up on the internet which AlGore invented.
The beautician replied, “Sure.” Then she picked up a hairbrush and broke the woman’s nose.
Ha! Yeah I know.
