Busy day, because our homeless family week is underway.
Then this afternoon we went to the National Cemetery, about 25 miles away for the ceremony. The main speaker told some riveting stories about serving in Vietnam.
And another, a retired Army nurse, spoke about supporting the troops AND the mission! YES! There were a few hundred folks gathered for the hour long event...very moving, and am glad we made it..the cemetery opened only about 6 years ago...The front passed thru without further rain and storms, so it's cooler and less humid now.
I think I have mentioned my grandfather's involvement, for over 50 years, with my local hometown Memorial Day Remembrance.
I'm saddened, once again, to see that in the local paper they were more concerned about the amusement park type of things.
Gramp was in charge of the parade, flags on graves. He was founder of the Fulton Veteran's Council many years ago in order to honor all our servicemen. There was some bickering amongst VFW, American Legion..., etc as to who was first in the parade and such. So, Gramp founded the Council and took all the blows.
While Gramp was alive and in charge, there could not be clowns in the parade, balloons sold, etc...plus no fireworks. It was a day to remember those who fought for our freedom, not to party...hardy.
So, this weekend I remember all those who fought for my freedom and I fondly remember Gramp. He taught us all so well and with few words but numerous actions.

It is my belief that we will recover. I hope so at any rate. But you are right; this thread is a refuge. There is a lot of just plain cussed-meaness out there.

I had missed your posts and just an hour or so wondered where you were.
I don’t need my friends to talk with me every day, but I do like to see them around. I was so happy the other day when JRandom popped up just to let us know he was alive.

Molly, though, is a Saint ... as she should be....
Agree, but from my bringing up prunin' can mean 2 things. A fruit to do its thing and a tool to do its. In some case, both may be needed.
I am here, mostly lurking in the shadows.
Real life issues are getting in my way of just being allowed to just “be”.
