Testosterone can help protect against brain shrinkage in men with multiple sclerosis (MS), a small, preliminary trial suggests.
Patients who applied a gel containing the hormone every day for a year showed less brain shrinkage than expected for people of their age with MS. The study participants also showed an increase in muscle mass over the course of the one-year trial.
