LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 9) - The owner of an upscale steakhouse in Louisville said he asked O.J. Simpson to leave his restaurant the night before the Kentucky Derby because he is sickened by the attention Simpson still attracts.
"I didn't want to serve him because of my convictions of what he's done to those families," Jeff Ruby said in a telephone interview Tuesday. "The way he continues to torture the lives of those families ... with his behavior, attitude and conduct."
Simpson, an NFL Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner, was found innocent in 1995 of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman but was found liable in a civil trial that followed.
Ruby - who owns restaurants in Cincinnati, Louisville and Belterra, Ind. - said Simpson, who was in town for the Derby on Saturday, came in with a group of about 12 Friday night and was seated at a table in the back. A customer came up to Ruby and was "giddy" about seeing Simpson, Ruby said.
"I didn't want that experience in my restaurant," Ruby said, later adding that seeing Simpson get so much attention "makes me sick to my stomach."
He said he went to Simpson's table and said, "I'm not serving you." Ruby said when Simpson didn't respond, he repeated himself and left the room.

Hey, where did you see this guy Carlos Mencia? Does he have a regular showing on TV anywhere? I accidentally ran across him on Comedy Central several years ago where I discovered his great commentary. I’ve never forgotten it but haven’t seen him.
I also was driving to work 1 day and lo and behold, passed his custom bus!
But I’ve only gotten on his website to check.
I don't know about you, but if a restaurant owner by the name of Ruby asks me to leave, I would most certainly comply.
“Carlos Mencia?”
Regular 1/2 hour show on Comedy Central. Just started the third season. Good stuff.
Yup. The juice was "not guilty". The Duke LaCrosse players were innocent.
“Hello, Ruby’s? Table for 2? in the NON- murderer section.”
The is going to be charged with racism and will probably face a huge lawsuit. You can`t refuse to serve someone just because you don`t like the publicity they get.
On the list of things that bother me on the failures of the justice system, I think that would rank in the top ten or so on a very long list including (off the top of my head): Gil Gharcetti, Judge Ito, Chris darden, The female prosecutor, why they did not use OJ's interview, why the change of venue to LA (from Santa Monica), lack of an understandable explanation to the simpletons on jury on what DNA is and......
Yes, you can.
A STANDING “O” for Jeff Ruby, Owner, and please hold the “J”!
I heard him being interviewed this afternoon. He didn't sound like a guy who would give a damn about threats from shysters and race baiters.
I'm not an avid "true crime" follower, including the OJ case, but I seem to recall that Al Cowlings was/is a preacher and said his conversations therefore were privileged.
Slash, slash, backslash, escape.
Minister and professional football legend. Visited Simpson at Los Angeles county Jail. Subdued Sirhan Sirhan after he shot and killed Robert Kennedy in 1968. Hobby and side occupation: Needlepoint
His new season has just started on Comedy Central. They’ll replay the show several times during the week. He’s great!
See ya after the dismissal! I'll throw ya' an orange!
I’m sure OJ will use all he wins in a lawsuit against Mr. Ruby, the restaurant owner, to pay the Goldmans and Browns the money he owes them for the judgement they have against him. sarc/off
83% gave the guy a “Thumbs up”
Gotta love this guy. If I’m ever in Louisville,
I will patronize this establishment, and tell
him the reason why I’m there.....
