I am shamelessly begging for an invite to the Joost beta. In understand that current beta testers (beta is invitation only) have now been given an unlimited number of invites. I didn't get selected for the beta and no one that I know is in the beta so I haven't been invited. In fact, few people that I know have any clue about what Joost is going to be.
Joost is pointing those who desire beta invites to check blogs for people who are giving out invitations. I searched FR and found nothing about Joost. So, let me be the first to ask and then I'll be handing out invitations once I have mine and I'm permitted to make my own invitations.
And if you don't know what Joost is, and you want to know, click here.
Here is a new video site that I find more interesting - jalipo.com. It is a paid-to-view service, but they are giving 100 credits to anyone who wants to try a free test.
I’m a beta tester and I can’t say I’m terribly impressed. At least, with the video selection. The video quality is vastly improved over YouTube and such sites. Freepmail me how to send invites.
What is it exactly? Like MobiTV, but with chat capabilities?
I’m not familiar with MobiTV. It has a selection of channels that you can view, you can search them for specific content. It’s sort of like cable-tv for the Internet. As I mentioned before, the selection is currently very limited. But then, it is a beta test so, the real issue is does the software work and the answer is yes. There are bugs, but that’s what Beta testing is for.
You need one of these on your belt, joost in case.
I had one.
But the verdammt jooooooooooooostesses took it away.
It’s like Internet TIVO without the need for time slots to download the video. But the channel lineup is not very impressive so far — A lot of kiddie eye candy stuff, not much substance. Need to boost the real programming, which they say they will, before it becomes viable. It’s ad supported and the ads are annoying. No fast forward like TIVO so you can’t bypass the ads, or fast forward a boring film.
Right now they say they are having network load problems, so the picture quality is not that good either. Will have to wait and see. It’ still early ...
Channel lineup will expand over time. They've already signed a deal with CBS. If you look at the major networks, they're already distributing a lot of their TV shows online on their own sites. But the Joost architecture will be a much better delivery system (think torrent-like P2P for streaming video). It is the future of video broadcasting and distribution. In 10 years people will wonder how anyone ever accepted having to catch a show (to watch or record) only when it was broadcast live. Tivo is one way of solving this problem, but it requires you to have a separate cable or satellite TV service.
TIVO has an Internet VOD service, I just canceled DirecTIVO(they upped the price last month) they bricked my TIVO with their latest software update and refused new one in exchange for a two year commitment. I think it may have been intentional ...
I am building a new PC specially for IPTV and MythTV because I have to have cable for high speed.
IPTV is the future, the fight is over who gets the ad revenues.
I have a couple joost invites left if anyone wants one ... Freepmail me.
I’ve used BeyondTV for years and love it. Works great. Almost as good as Tivo.
I am going to try out BeyondTV after I finish with tests of joost. They cleaned up a lot of the problems today.
Thanks to Tarpon, I’m in as a Joost beta tester. If anyone wants an invite, let me know.
