Woman may set record as shortest mother (2 foot 9)

(Video link below) PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. - One woman's pregnancy could come close to breaking a state record. Expectant mother Cristianne Ray may soon set the bar, and it's all because she falls much shorter than average.

Cristianne's already made it to week 35 of her pregnancy, making weekly trips from Puyallup to Seattle to see specialists.

"I don't know, it's been different. I've grown a lot," she said. "My doctor, every time I see her she says, 'oh my gosh, your stomach's so big.'"

Any pregnant woman may feel that way, but Cristianne gained almost 40 percent of her pre-pregancy weight.

You see, Cristianne is a little person, just 2'9'' tall. She weighed 80 pounds, then gained 30 more with her pregnancy.

She can still make it down the stairs on her own, but she needs her fiance, Jeremy Bowden, to carry her back up.

Jeremy happens to be 6'4'', which puts more than three feet between the two.

But this couple's all about beating the odds, especially when it comes to their baby daughter.

Jeremy said doctors didn't know whether Cristianne would be able to carry a baby at first.

"'Cause they thought the baby was going to press on her lungs and she wasn't going to be able to breathe and neither was the baby or something," he said. "They didn't want that happening, so we've proved them wrong about a lot of the stuff."

They certainly did, and now they're eagerly waiting for the day they'll be able to bring their baby girl home.

"I can't wait until she comes out," Cristianne said.

The doctors already believe the baby will be a little person, just like her mom.

"She's pretty sure it's a little person, but you can never really know until she comes out," Cristianne said.

They'll know for sure next week when the little one finally arrives.

Cristianne and her family believe she will be the smallest woman in Washington state to give birth.

We did some research of our own and found several women in history that were listed as the smallest mothers in the world. One of those women, Dolletta Boykin, was 28 inches tall and gave birth to two children back in the late 1880s.

Just call her Mini-Mom...her height is about the same as the actor who plays Mini Me; maybe about the same height as a 2 yr old?

even smaller than the dwarves seen on “Little People Big
World” are some “primordial dwarves” who are shorter and
much thinner. Two siblings in Illinois are 28 inches tall
and 20 pounds (17 yr old Bri) and 38 inches tall and 30
pounds (15 yr old Brad); recently seen on “Tyra Banks Show”
and elsewhere...teens who wear clothes meant for toddlers.
The 17 year old is shorter and thinner than her 20 month
old cousin!

She did give birth...

SEATTLE — Newborn Krysten Elise Ray may not have to work very hard to grow taller than her mother, Christianne Ray, who stands 2-feet-nine-inches tall, and became perhaps the smallest mom in Washington when she gave birth this week.

Krysten Elise was 14-inches long and weighed 4 pounds and 8 ounces when she was born Tuesday via Caesarian section at the University of Washington Medical School, hospital spokeswoman Clare Hagerty said Friday.

Health problems put the baby in the neo-natal intensive care unit, where she will stay for weeks before she can go home, the hospital confirmed. The mother, who was 35 weeks pregnant when the baby was born, was being discharged Friday, Hagerty said.

Doctors were unsure if Ray, 19, of Puyallup, would be able to carry the baby at first, she told KOMO television before entering the hospital. Her family believes she is the shortest woman to give birth in Washington state.

“’Cause they thought the baby was going to press on her lungs and she wasn’t going to be able to breathe and neither was the baby or something,” said her fiance, Jeremy Bowden. “They didn’t want that happening, so we’ve proved them wrong about a lot of the stuff.”

Kay had been making weekly trips from Puyallup to Seattle to see specialists during her pregnancy. She weighed about 80 pounds before getting pregnant and added another 30 during the pregnancy.

Bowden, who is 6-foot-4-inches tall, said he had to carry her up the stairs toward the end of her pregnancy.

The family has signed an exclusive arrangement with Entertainment Tonight and was unable to talk to any other media since the birth of Krysten, Hagerty said.
