Is Robert Reich a good author?

Posted on 04/30/2007 7:26:19 AM PDT by lesko

I'm taking a summer class political science class at our local university and Robert Reich's book entitled "The Power of Public Ideas" is required.

TOPICS: Books/Literature; Education
KEYWORDS:
I've heard this guy's name before but don't know where/when. Anyone have any idea who he is? Is he a Clinton-era lib? If so, I suspect his book will probably be a leftist pipe-dream.

He was the dwarven Cabinet Secretary of Labor for Clinton. There isn’t a single Socialist or Marxist idea that he didn’t find full of merit and worth attempting to implement.

He's a Clinton era liberal...and a self-important, arrogant, offensive public speaker. Despite all that he might be a good writer - adept at presenting his point of view, interesting to read.

Even if that's not true, even if he's terrible and makes you want to throw the book through the window, the discipline necessary to mount a reasoned critique is worth developing.

He’s an intelligent guy. Wrong, but intelligent.

He’s too short to be a good writer or thinker. He’d never gotten over his Napoleon complex.

“Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
To live

They got little hands
And little eyes
And they walk around
Tellin’ great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

Well, I don’t want no Short People
Don’t want no Short People
Don’t want no Short People
Round here

Short People are just the same
As you and I
(A Fool Such As I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It’s A Wonderful World)

Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
To love

They got little baby legs
And they stand so low
You got to pick ‘em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That got beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin’ peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They’re gonna get you every time
Well, I don’t want no Short People
Don’t want no Short People
Don’t want no Short People
‘Round here”

“Short People” Randy Newman

He needs a shower and a shave too. He’s a Dhimocrap. Another overeducated and brainwashed so called “liberal”.

By the way, Robert Rubin is also a Clinton era liberal...and a very interesting, clever man.

Here is the antidote to whatever Reich argues. Drive your professor nuts with it.

Reich was Clinton's Secretary of Labor.

He is a self-described Marxist.

His writing style is extremely tedious.

Reich ran unsuccessfully for governor of MA. He once wrote a book with a title that poked fun at his own height (4'11" on a good day)--I'll Be Short.

One amazon.com comment, written in 2002: "Robert Reich is a tax-and-spend leftist who thinks that guaranteed jobs and a wacky communal wealth scheme should be some sort of unalienable right. What it is is redistribution of wealth by a benevolent and all-knowing Government elite, like Reich himself, say, and is nothing more than warmed over Marxism. He's also running for Governor of Massachusetts, and if successful will help the Democratic legislature continue to tax the residents back into misery of the Mike Dukakis years, driving businesses and jobs away with his Nanny State philosophy, while doling out tax dollars to favored and connected groups. Like I said, warmed over Marxism from a Clintonite who already has his pile of money."

We used a book of his when I was in college in the 80’s. He’s not a bad writer, iirc. A socialist, but easy to read.

He’s not as good as Wilhelm Reich.
