The Weekend YouTube Musical Video thread
Self | 4/27/207 | Caramelgal

Posted on 04/27/2007 7:38:55 PM PDT by Caramelgal

I didn’t’ see you post a tread for this weekend so I hope you don’t mind me starting one for this weekend. I’m curious to know who here is listening to what and why:

Here are some of my favorites:

Paolo Nutini - New Shoes - ‘cause it makes be feeling like buying some new shoes and going out dancing with my friends :),

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlhPfFnstR4

Rush – Freewill. Is it me or is Geddy Lee getting better looking as he gets older. Maybe it’s just because I’m older too. Maybe it’s the glasses and the soul patch or the fact he is still a guitar god and this band makes such great music. Best concert I’ve ever been to was Rush. “If you chose not to decide, you have still made a choice - I will choice a path that’s clear, I will choose Freewill”.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Peb_YEnA5MQ

I didn’t think I liked country music until I found Nickel Creek and the Smoothie Song and how cool, young, hip and musical “Country” could be:.

Then I “discovered” Little Big Town. They remind me of Fleetwood Mac and back in the day (with just a little more twang):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjiztRia0lA

And speaking of Fleetwood Mac, my favorite song by Stevie Nicks: “I know I could have loved you but you would not let me”. “You’ll never get away from the sound of woman that loved you”.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkELfUO8jBM

I love Evanessance. Amy Lee has such an amazing voice:

Ben Harper – Diamonds on the Inside: “She made herself a bed of nails and she’s planning on putting it to use, ‘cause she had diamonds on the inside”;

Senses Working Overtime...

I don't love XTC but that is a great song!!

And here is World Party.

A band I'm not all that crazy about, but love this song.

What a great response and what variety! Thanks to everyone who contributed.

There was too much to comment on everything, but we had posts of the Foo Fighters with the remaining members of Queen (wicked cool), Beck, Megadeath, Blue Oyster Cult (not enough cowbell though). There were super feats of guitar playing from a lot of well known and not so known guitar heroes, even an electric version of Pachabel’s Canon, a little comedy (“One hit wonder – where are you now Pachabel’? – LOL). And “My Generation”…I’m beginning to resemble this generation a little more than the original – is this the new theme song for AARP?

There was some cool African music, a bit of folk music history, classic jazz via Dave Brubeck (still so cool) and some awesome to the max eighties stuff, XTC, etc.

There were videos by the Stevies’ - Wonder, Ray Vaughan and Nicks

There were some of my personal favorites like The Cure and Shawn Colvin with John Cale & Richard Thompson with a haunting version of Heartbreak Hotel.

RunningWolf did this thread last week so I humbly bow down and give credit were credit is due. (I didn’t mean to steal your thunder honey, you started it, but I so enjoyed the thread last weekend, when I didn’t see one posted for this weekend, I took the ball and ran with it.)

Shall we do this again next weekend? (RunningWolf – do you want to take it or should I go with it?)

Sunday is slipping away and another weekend is coming to an end so I leave you with these.
The Mamas & The Papas - Monday Monday
Fleetwood Mac – Monday Morning
Just for fun:
Friday Vs Monday
My favorite new song of the week (It just makes me smile):
Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby

And I just have to post the You Tube video of my very own nephew from about six years ago. He now plays the trumpet (most excellently BTW) and is also one heck of a baseball player. He does his Aunt Carmelgal very proud.

Music is interesting. It’s almost like a sense that can bring back memories like an odor.

Procol Harum - Whiter shade of pale brings back memories of my very early childhood. I can remember riding in the back seat with my little sister singing along with the song even before she really spoke.

Your nephew was REALLY good. So cute it cracked me up.

I like "Ruby" too, and hope it's a big hit for the Kaiser Chiefs.

Thanks for the thread. If you or RunningWolf start a ping list,I would love to be added.

Maybe we both will. From my music video of last weekend I had two pinglist requests, you would make it three and I can manage that :^)

Re: WOW

I think so too. I've always heard of him more than I've heard him and I was glad to find that video (while looking for Eddie Cochran stuff).

I imagine rather than him getting the rights from Jake and Elwood they stole got the thing from him.

I do remember reading that Elvis got the idea of jumpsuits from W. Cochran but I couldn't prove it.

Thanks for starting the thread! I missed it last weekend, and will miss it next weekend, but will catch up afterwards.

A ping list would be great---how do I get on?

ALL--thanks from the Budman too!

I really know what you mean. I remember being, probably about three and suddenly belting out the Tom Jones song “What’s New Pussy Cat”. My mother was somewhat horrified but for me at that age it was just a nice song about a cat and I liked cats. I used to hang out the window of our third floor walkup brownstone apartment, trying to get the neighbor’s cat to come up the fire escape so I could pet him and that song always reminds me of that particular time and place and that orange tabby. I hear that song and I suddenly remember that dingy apartment, the smell of my mother’s meatloaf in the oven, the sound of the Honey Mooners on the black and white TV and I can still remember the sweet spring air, the fire escape and I can still hear that cat meowing, what he looked like and how soft he felt, I can still hear him purring under my hand.

It’s amazing how certain songs make such impressions on us even at such a young age even if we interpret it differently from what the musician intended. Music is really is the soundtrack of our lives. Some songs make us smile, some songs make us laugh, some songs make us remember loves found and loves lost, and some make us feel melancholy, but music, whether it’s classical, jazz, alternative, rock, metal, Latin, reggae, some music has a way of touching something deep in our hearts.

Great thread! I am hooked on You Tube and have discovered some great old videos there, as well as some awesome talent that is wonderfully new, to me.

Ever see KT Tunstall perform live? You may recognize her music from the movie, The Devil Wears Prada...”Suddenly I See”, but her talent lies in her live shows, where she does something I call ‘acoustic looping’....here are a few of my favorites:

Big Black Horse in a Cherry Tree (SOLO)

I Want You Back (SOLO)

Suddenly I See (Full Band, KT on Guitar AND Drums)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCJQFPOlj7M

Enjoy!

I love her version of Tangled Up in Blue.

For something completely different I love this video of The Stooges. The best part of it is the commentator who just doesn't get it.

Wow...that was a great version of Tangled Up in Blue! And it’s also the first time I’ve seen her boyfriend play drums with maraccas, lol.

Speaking of the Stooges...I know they were nominated for the R&R HOF...did they make it in?
