I think her show was fairly successful in the beginning. Remember, she was still in the closet, at least officially. She had'nt yet deliberately butched-up her appearance.

Then she went and attacked Tom Selleck. That was the first real glimpse of the ugliness within. The response from the pro-gun crowd put the heat on her sponsors and it was all downhill from there.
