First there was Salt Lake City, and now Virgian Tech. Trey Perkins, a 19 year old student who is now on fox News spewed his story about being in the same room as the gunman while he reloaded his weapons at least once. Did he get up and charge the gunman with reckless abandon to save his fellow students? NO
When the SLC shooting took place, the local news broadcast a cell video of the shooter discharging his weapons. While the owner of the cell phone stood there and filmed the shooter, who coincidently had his back to the camera, he did nothing. Cowards, bystanders, and wimps. I am ashamed and disgusted. Maybe it is my military training or having being in a war zone that makes me know I would take action or die trying.
I would not be jumping out of windows or filming a murderer in action, and I hope to God that whoever reads this would not either. Where are all the men?

As Rush is quick to point out, the driveby Media will fit this into their “prism or news template: called “What’s Wrong With America?” and invariably “What’s Wrong With George Bush?”.
As it turns out that this campus is a Gun Free Zone. Nobody but the deranged killer had a weapon.

I do not disagree with your statements re: society, feminization, etc. It’s just that I don’t believe they are relevant in this context. How an individual reacts uinder stress in a tactical situation has nothing to do with sexual orientation, what God you believe in, political affiliation, whether you are a hunter.
How you react is based upon what you have experienced and how you have been trained.
We have no idea just how long that killer was even in the room. He may not have been there long enough for the kids there to even wrap their brains around the situation before he was ‘reloading’ and shooting again. Please don’t judge these young men, because we have no idea what the situation was like for them.

It is not normal to try to defend yourself. It is normal to freeze. You need to be taught how, and more importantly, when to fight. That is something that many fathers, and society in general, has perhaps forgotten to teach their sons (and daughters).
I saw the interviews last night. Those were brave boys (men) indeed. Holding the door while the perp is shooting through it is not something for the weak at heart.

It’s “normal” these days, because courage is considered un-pc. That’s why, if we’re ever invaded, we will be easy pickins. Except for those of us who are armed, of course.
I admit though, you’d think maybe a few guys would get together, and with the increased courage that goes along with acting as a group, have jumped this guy and taken him down. But again, that’s easy to say from a thousand miles away sitting in front of a keyboard.
Extremely good post! Imagine sitting in a room full of people and suddenly a guy comes in and just starts shooting. From what the students are saying on TV, they didn't know what the hell was going on, they were in shock. Heck, most of them were shot before they even knew what was going on!
Exactly my point about childhood games! What you learn as a child is a pretty good indicator of how you will react in any given situation for the rest of your life.

It really bugs me that in elementry / middle school / high school nowadays if you defend yourself, both you AND the bully are suspended. Zero tolerance has certainly made us all safer.

How well the social engineers know that. It's why our country is becoming weak, they've feminized our males. But what's really tragic about what you posted above is that adolescense is so extended today, young adults still think of themselves are "kids" until they're about 30. Which is why we see 20-somethings acting like spoiled 12 year olds.
