So there's this walking / biking trail not far from the house and I decided to start taking walks in the mornings. This morning I was walking along and I said "hi-ya" to the radically obese Indian guy that's ALWAYS sitting on the first bench to your right (he drinks Pepsi - a sh*tload of them - as evident by the pile of cans sitting next to him). We usually make small talk but didn't say much this morning. He just had this puzzled look on his face and he was motioning towards this small footbridge and creek around the corner.
Then I could hear some guy screaming. "You're just a ******* slut, Matilda. You never listen to a word I say. And look at yourself. You're a ******* mess." By then I'd made it around the corner and saw the man. He was wearing sweatpants that were at least 8 inches too short, white socks, and brown dress shoes. He wore glasses from 1980 - no, make it 1970 - and had a comb over worse than any you've ever seen, even in the bowling alley. He was furious but I didn't see "Matilda" anywhere. That's because Matilda, as it turns out, is a little red haired dog. Who calls a dog a "slut" by the way? Is that not strange? She had one of those lampshade things around her neck. There were Cheetos rolling around in the lampshade.
The guy looks up at me and says, "You want this b*tch?" I said yes. And he walked off. Now what in the hell was I going to do? I should have though about it. I didn't really want a dog. But there we were. So I broke the lampshade loose and tossed it in a trash barrel and me and Matilda continued on. I went about 20 minutes before turning around and heading back. I was lost in thought about what I was going to do with this dog.
My fat Indian buddy was still sitting on his bench, of course, when I came back by. He asked me where the dog came from and I said, it's "Matilda". Oh. He asked if she liked Pepsi. I don't know I just got her. So he let some Pepsi drizzle out of his can and she lapped it up. He said he wanted her and pulled out his wallet. I told him that he could have her if he'd take care of her. That was that.
So I walked back to my car and headed for home. And I passed the Indian guy walking Matilda down the main sidewalk on the way. It's the first time I've ever seen him off the bench.
I know this is a weird and pointless story - thats why I wanted to tell you about it. Have a good weekend.

How much coffee HAVE you had, hon?!
I have a little rescued dog named Lucy.
Glad to hear that Matilda has a second chance... and maybe the Indian guy, too.
Neat story
I just hope and pray that Matilda didn’t wind up being the fat guys’ lunch!

In Before Moved to Somewhere Else
Is this in the wrong place?
Of course in my "cartoon bubble" I envision it happening in a nearby park. The guy with the combover has a nasty case of acne on his cheeks and the guy on the bench is wearing an Atlanta Braves jacket, even though I live in Minnesota.
coulda swore I was in the breaking news forum - this is now a wonderful place to be - give Matilda my best
So that’s what the twitch is all about. I thought you were having a seizure!
(Neat story, by the way.)
I love any story that gives an abused/neglected dog a second chance for a better life. Good for you for taking her. Maybe it will be a chance for a better life for both of them (dog and Indian man).
Stick with you hair dressing career. :)
Sounds like you may have saved 2 lives today. The little dog, obviously, but additionally, the indian guy. He now has a reason to walk a bit, which is good, and someone to care for, which is better.
By the way, it’s now 2:18 and I’ve been hearing “Waltzing Matilda” in my head all day.
Thaaaaaanks.
Great story. I’m glad I have lived a VERY boring life, but I’m also glad to those who don’t often choose well when given the opportunity. Well done, jaysun.
