Sen. Alfonse DAmato, right, U.S. Attorney Rudolph Giuliani, center, and Benjamin Baer, chairman of the U.S Parole Commission, pose in undercover clothes in this July 9, 1986 file photo, after DAmato bought what he later told a news conference were vials of crack on a New York City street. DAmato, dressed in a fatigue cap and Eisenhower jacket, made the buy with an agent of the US Drug Enforcement Agency. Long before he became mayor of New York or the Republican front-runner for the presidency, Giuliani made a name for himself as a crime-busting federal prosecutor in Manhattan. During a nearly seven-year stretch ending in 1989, Giuliani steered dozens of high-profile cases to completion, garnering more than 4,000 convictions.
“When you put 4,000 criminals away over a span of 7 years”
I’m sure school principals could brag of a success rate like that if possession of spitwads were a felony.
How many of those 4,000 are back on the streets now?
How many less crimes would they have committed if those who deserved capital punishment got it after a first-strike (not three strikes, etc.)?
Not going off on you so much as the entire criminal justice system—which needs a true hawk in the White House bully pupit...I’m not convinced that Rudy was really even that hard on crime. It’s one thing to detain criminals temporarily, another thing to stop them permanently.
...recall the list of Communist Goals posted repeatedly here.
I commend Rudy for being a Fighter of the War on Drugs. However, how many Free Abortions will President Rudy use my tax dollars to pay for?
Rudy is cool.
While jon cary was betraying America, Rudy was busting druggies
Oh, waaaay beyond.
You sure have a lot of questions. Many of them have more to do with the judiciary and corrections systems, not the prosecutor. Nevertheless, 4,000 over 7 years is impressive, no matter how hard you try to downplay it.
Its a shame that some Freepers minds are stuck on STUNNED!
They have problems with their beebers.
there are people here who have to play a game called “ONE DEGREE OF SEPARATION, where they see how they can connect abortion to any discussion that comes up on FreeRepublic..and frankly, it’s boring.
LOL! Sure looks like it! :-)
You’re really stretching it with this thread
That was the fashion that was worn 20 years ago
Shall we post some high school pictures and compare?
I Think its terrific! I’m a pro-Rudy person.
Caught me ... I’m guilty of not ready taglines :0)
There are so many rag on Rudy threads I assumed when I shouldn’t have
My pertinent questions remain unanswered. Can you help here?
Indeed he did have a positive impact...but even so, I think Rudy is somewhat over-rated in one of his strongest suits—that of being tough on crime.
I would like to see a breakdown of those 4,000 reported convictions, by type of crime and the present disposition of those convicted as of April 2007.
I would like to know that the POTUS is strong enough on crime to support the death penalty. That will affect SCOTUS appointments.
It’s hysterical how every time someone posts a thread all the supporters of the “other guy” leap on the thread and start bashing. It’s turned a lot of people off and they rarely come here anymore.
Good one! They play it with "but did he fight to keep Terri alive???" as well.
“I would like to know that the POTUS is strong enough on crime to support the death penalty. That will affect SCOTUS appointments.”
That’s a good point. I’d like to know that about all the candidates. Hopefully the debates will share light on it.
Three whole posts before the first gratuitous, low-brow Rudy bash.
Can you name any federal govt program that pays for abortion unless the result of rape or incest or to save the life of the mother?
If not, the answer to your question is zero, except in the case of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. And in those cases, it would not be President Rudy paying with your tax dollars. It would be pursuant to laws already passed by Congress.
