I have just spent the most fabulous week in a house in Destin, Fl. The development is Destiny West. Million dollar homes, 1 block from the beach for rent at reasonable prices. We had a golf cart included in the rent to drive to and from; truly a pleasure. I can highly recommend both the town and the community as a family vacation destination. The white sands of the gulf, family oriented, quiet as a church mouse at 10:00 PM, but, there are night time destinations if you so desire.
We also chartered a fishing boat for a half day. The "South Bound", captained by Rick Purves. We caught 50 or so Spanish Mackerel, had a few Kings to the boat, spotted a couple of Cobia but didn't get a cast on one. All in all a beautiful outing with some truly nice gentleman that knew how to entertain a family. It wasn't just work for them.
I post this only to provide information to others. It is so hard to plan a family vacation and have it come out right. If you would like further info on a Destin vacation, ping me and I'll give you the info I have.
I personally like Apalachicola more than Destin — quieter still. Sshhhh - don’t tell anyone. It’s not directly on the beach, but has some great photography possibilities.
You just think it’s nice now, 40 years ago it was really nice!
