Heath Ledger has discussed his new role as the Joker in the next Batman instalment, revealing he had a “different take” on the famous villain.

Speaking to US magazine Newsweek regarding about his recent casting as The Joker (played previously by Jack Nicholson) in the forthcoming Batman movie ‘The Dark Knight’.

Ledger told the magazine: “I've been bouncing around like a lunatic for four months. I definitely have a different take on him, but I've yet to do a proper makeup run. It's on the agenda”.

When asked if he’d been practising his laugh, Ledger simply replied “I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been”.

‘The Dark Knight’ is set for a summer 2008 release.

The Prestige is a good movie.

If you haven’t seen The Machinist, rent it. Its mind-boggling what Bale did to his body for that role. He looks like a concentration camp victim.

It’s a good movie too.

Oh yeah, we just saw The Prestige a couple of weeks ago. We enjoyed it immensely! Unexptected, that ending was!

I've heard The Machinist was very good, but I haven't seen it. I think I might even try to sit through American Psycho, because I heard he was terrific in that one, as well.

Nah, it just sounded too Brit for an alleged American to have said that way.

Ledger is Australian.

Okay, here’s my angry fan-geek reaction to this thread.

I am a huge Bat-fan, probably the biggest (and only) one on FR. Begins was the best one ever, no question. So I’ve been following the latest developments on The Dark Knight very closely.

I am SO SICK of the Brokeback/Ledger Jokes! I mean, is it me, or is that just getting ridiculously old? I personally think Ledger’s going to do a fantastic job.

Anyway, for all those who are making fun of Ledger (not the ones I included in this ping, I’m trying at first to see if there are people on my side)...some of the script got illegally leaked on the net a few months ago and I got the privelege to have a look. (WB threatened legal action a short time later and had the website where they were posted pull them).

So from what I read in those script excerpts, it looks to me like this version of the Joker is going to make Jack Nicholson’s version look like Mr. Rogers. Those who made fun of Ledger...when it’s actually there on the screen, I have a feeling they won’t be laughing anymore. Assuming they can see the movie from the cracks in between their fingers. Know what I mean?

Okay, sorry about the rant, guys. Had to get it out of my system.

Oh, and Christian Bale rocks.

BTW...here's a PhotoShop someone did of Ledger in the role.

And I personally *REALLY* wish I'd been the one to come up with it.

I don't know who DeFett is, but he's good.

Oh, I think Heath Ledger will do just fine. As I think I mentioned earlier on the thread, I HATED Jack Nicholson's Joker, but then I thought that whole Batman movie stunk.

We loved Batman Begins, and are really looking forward to Dark Knight. We are HUGH Christian Bale fans here, too. Just saw Shaft the other night; he was the bad guy in that one. Our son came home from college a few years ago talking about a great movie he'd seen with Bale in it. It's Equilibrium, and if you haven't seen it, DO IT SOON!

Yeah, Bale is probably one of my favorite actors. Not just for Batman, but just because he’s so darn good. Really brings a lot of intensity to his roles.

Nobody can beat Nicholson as the Joker...he stole that movie right out from under Batman.....

Gee, that was so hard to do up against the terrifying Michael Keaton. The most accurate depiction of "Batman as Johnny Dangerously" ever.
