Heath Ledger has discussed his new role as the Joker in the next Batman instalment, revealing he had a “different take” on the famous villain.

Speaking to US magazine Newsweek regarding about his recent casting as The Joker (played previously by Jack Nicholson) in the forthcoming Batman movie ‘The Dark Knight’.

Ledger told the magazine: “I've been bouncing around like a lunatic for four months. I definitely have a different take on him, but I've yet to do a proper makeup run. It's on the agenda”.

When asked if he’d been practising his laugh, Ledger simply replied “I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been”.

‘The Dark Knight’ is set for a summer 2008 release.

It must be an L.A. thing. I don't work in the entertainment industry, but I know plenty of people who do. That phrase didn't strike me as being at all out of the ordinary. In fact, a friend was doing makeup tests just the other day.

(And you, of all people, must have some familiarity with FX makeup! How many other FReepers have posted pictures of themselves with Elvish ears? : )

Oh, I know all about makeup! But you’d never catch me saying “I have yet to do a proper makeup run.”

That is not a way any American would phrase it, whether they need the makeup or not.

I couldn’t tell if you were faulting the grammar or the general “John Edwards”-ishness of the statement. (I’d use another word besides “John Edwards”, but apparently, I’d require therapy afterward.)

Now that was a horrible movie. “Jarhead” was the name of it.

You are correct. All I did was re-map the color; the rest is all John Edwards!

I was watching the news report when he did that look and first thing I thought of was The Joker so I knew it wasn’t anything but color-shopped. :)

Nah, it just sounded too Brit for an alleged American to have said that way.

And you are entirely correct about potential court-ordered rehab. However, you’ll notice that we now have a useful new synonym!

I guess I’m one of the few around here who didn't really care for Batman Begins. I found the rendition of Gotham City as some sort of Chicago on the east coast much less compelling than Burton’s dark vision of an Art Deco, neo- 1930’s New York City. Can't say I disagree too much on the overall assessment of Burton's work though!

I also didn't care for Batman’s kung fu background in the latter film, which I guess was taken from a later comic storyline but veered too far into Matrix sensibilities for my taste. The villain was also too mundane fro me.

I can't wait for the next installment. We LOVED Batman Begins, and I sure HOPE Heath Ledger plays the Joker differently than Nicholson! That was an AWFUL performance!

We're BIG Christian Bale fans in this house! Have you seen Equilibrium or Reign of Fire? We liked both of those a lot! Of course, the eye candy factor in both movies is pretty good, too. ;o)
