A Chinese man says his cat can clearly pronounce his own name. Mr Sun, from Beijing, says two-year-old Agui says his name when he gets frightened

So, any time a cat meows in China, it's basically saying "cat, cat" anyway. The fact that this cat is saying something other than "cat, cat" when it talks is downright odd. On many levels.
The first thing a cat should learn to say in Chinese is "DON'T EAT ME!!".
Meow's the name; Purring's the game.
My cat, Gurgle, says his name when he's hit by a car.
About 30 years ago, we had a cat that ended up with 10-12 words of appropriate human vocabulary, within limits of feline vocal capability, before it drove her literally insane. She had to be put down over it.
I think the poltergeist taught her, by using the Ouija Board.
After she was gone, the singing mice took over the place, constantly taunting us.
The last straw was when they hid my glasses in their hole, and tried to use them to give me the Evil Eye.
I once knew a pussy that could talk....at least it talked to me...
Oh I can so identify with this behavior. At my house, even pulling the cover over your head is uselesss - Baxter the Black will simply paw it away - using claws - until your face is uncovered.
Our oh so earnest and charming vet has explained to me that cats learn to vocalize from humans - they recognize that we communicate with sounds and respond by using sounds themselves. Studies have show that cats have the ability to reproduce many of the sounds of the alphabet. Many cats can say "milk" - as if the whirling and prancing in front of the refrigerator door is not message enough in its self. Many cats can say "out" - not Baxter the Black, because he can turn the doorknob, so requires no vocalization. Cats do particularly well with mmmm and owww and wooow sounds. And some are good at arrrgh sounds also.
We had a dog that would say "I love you" as plain as day. She could say a number of words and speak in short sentences. Lots of funny stories involving that dog.
She loved to go for rides in the vehicles. After my sister learned that she could say "I wanna go" she used to make the poor dog say "I wanna go" before she would take her for a ride and get her favorite little package of powdered sugar coated doughnuts at the convenience store. Ha.
The best thing was seeing the shocked looks on the faces of people who were skeptical of her ability to "talk". Ha.
Our last dog could say "I love you" and a few other words, but never had the "vocabulary" of the other one...probably because she thought I was a mindreader from the way I anticipated her wants and needs. Ha.
Dimagio?

Funny, he doesn't look Chinese!

My cats both can say my name, of course they named me, as cats are wont to do. My cat name is 'Ra-ow' and if the cats are insistent for my attention it is 'Ra-a-a-ow'. My pronunciation isn't as good as the cats' but there you have it, they named me! [Their names are 'Goose' and 'Crook', and they know whom I'm scolding when I say the name, but they pretend confusion if they don't want to acknowledge orders to them.]
Mine too..."Stop clawing the couch you little turd."
We've already got one. His name is Teddy Kennedy. LOL! ;o)
It must be important.
So did ours, but we used Frontline and Advantage to get rid of them. LOL.
I know that does sound ridiculous, but she really could say short sentences like the two I mentioned. Ha.
p.s. God bless you for your service. Welcome home.
LOL. True, but he slurs when he says it. LOL.
Curious name for a cat.
