This is the first I've heard of this. How did they decide that this was the guy, the smoking / burning? It's not clear from this article, if that's what it was.

Guy's confessed, of course.

"A leasing agent at the apartment complex also noticed the thick dark smoke and the intense flames and asked Shepherd what he was doing, Evans said. Another neighbor, 18-year-old James Hebert, told The Houston Chronicle that he often cooked out with Shepherd, and even left his grill at Shepherd's apartment. When he wasn't invited over, he asked his neighbor what was going on. Shepherd replied that he was cooking for a wedding, the newspaper said."

I'm guessing that he doesn't want his grill back now.

No, but he's going to be able to sell some - because we're going to try him and execute him. He won't be using about 20-50 years worth of carbon.

Not really important, but this young woman was the niece of Dallas Cowboys cornerback, Aaron Glenn.

why yes there is, I corrected myself!

Cornerback A defensive back who generally lines up on the outside of the formation and is usually assigned to cover a wide receiver

Well, yes there is such a position. Trust me, I'm a football addict. He is responsible primarily for defending against the wide receiver, and as a safety valve deep in run coverage.
