Texas toddler killed by pit bull

A 2-year-old Texas girl riding her tricycle was attacked and fatally mauled by her family's male pit bull, it was reported Friday.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department responded to a 911 call Thursday afternoon from a man believed to be the girl's father, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Deputy Michael Ortiz said the girl's injuries were mainly to her face and head but neighbors who witnessed the attack said she also appeared to have been bitten on the throat and buttocks.

Witnesses said the girl's father was trimming weeds nearby when one of the family's pit bulls apparently broke it chains and attacked the child.

Authorities withheld the name of the victim and her father pending a decision on whether to file criminal charges in the case.

I did get off subject with my pup, sorry! I certainly feel bad for the child that was mauled to death. If I had children, I would just make it a practice not to leave them alone.

"I've been attacked by a dog - no, it wasn't a pit bull - and it was freaking scary. Thank God it wasn't a pit bull or I would have much more seriously injured"

Me too. Plus I've been cornered by a doberman and treed by a Rottweiler (well actually I jumped up on some guys pickup truck). The doberman lived, the Rottie met accidental death.

This website was set up after the death of Lilian Stiles of Thorndale,TX. She was maul to death in her frontyard by a pack of 6 or 7 pit bull and Rotwiller (sp) mixed breed dogs owned by her neighbor.

The neighbor, a Mr. Hernandez, was acquitted by a jury yesterday. He faced 6 months to 2 yrs in prison for negligent homicide. Milam county (TX), where both parties resided, has NO law concerning the leashing or caging of dogs.

Please visit this site. Your support will help prevent this from happening to other families.

Mrs. Stiles was our best friend's Mom.

You must carry meat in your pocket or something.

Some pit bulls are very sweet and affectionate. My Aunt Martha had a pit bull that could have licked you to death. He didn't, though. Instead, he shook my cousin Lawrence to death.

(Edited for effect)

I was trail running when the doberman came after me, luckily he was about 100 yards away when I saw him...the rottweiler just came after me when i was running on a suburban street. Many runners could tell you like stories I'm sure.

What p'ssed me off was that the guy on the same side of the street I was on ignored my plight. He didn't try to help, get a neighbor, call the police or anything. He was protecting the owner and said he didnt know who owned the dog. I never ran that route again but I saw the dog unleased about 3 wks after that, so i parked my car and found out the dog ower was next door neighbor to the loser who thought my plight was worth a smirk when I told him to tell the owner to leash the dog or I'd be back.

You are right.

As I have said before, me and my neighbor have an understanding ~ if he makes sure his pitbull stays in the fence, and I won't accidentally blow its frickin head off.

Makes you wish you could carry a taser gun with you.

When I was in 7th grade, I was chased by a German Shepard while throwing on my paper route. I knew the dog was mean - the owners kept him locked up but he got out some how. I saw him way in advance (maybe a 50 yard head start) but that thing still caught me on my bike. I was trying to kick him and maybe that's why he stopped his pursuant (or the smell of crap scared him off).
