Crystal Brown's world was turned upside down a month ago when Chevy, her 4-year-old Australian shepherd mix, didn't come home.
"I told him everything and he never shared any of my secrets," said Crystal, 17, who has had some troubled times in her young life. Chevy was her therapy dog, and she leaned on him for comfort and support.
Two weeks ago, a gift-wrapped box was left at the house where she lives with her grandmother in St. Paul's Rice Street area. Inside the box, Crystal was horrified to find her dog's head.
"This was so cruel," Crystal said Wednesday. "This is one sick, twisted person."
The incident is considered so shocking that the Humane Society of the United States announced Wednesday that it was offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Homicide investigators are looking into the case because of the "implied" terroristic threat, St. Paul Police Sgt. Jim Gray said.
"This was extraordinarily heinous," said Dale Bartlett, the Humane Society's deputy manager for animal cruelty issues. "I deal with hundreds and hundreds of cruelty cases each year. When I read about this case, it took my breath away. It's horrible."

ANd those people are all cold hearted cruel monsters themselves.....they are sub-human bitter lonely blobs of flesh.
It sounds so ... so ... so radical Muslim don'tchaknow.
I just hope that the authorities don't let this story and the necessity to capture the perp fade after a few days.
How ugly and evil.
The "person" who did this needs killing

March 14: Crystal Brown wipes away tears recalling her late pet Chevey. Her new puppy, Diesel, plays beside her.
A lot of people around here would shoot a noisome dog, but to cut off the head and send it to the girl is a direct threat. They have a dangerous sociopath on their hands.
The entire community should be concerned that a psycho is on the loose. Poor little girl..

If you hear any updates, let us know. This story is just awful beyond words. :o(
NO kidding. I hope someone comes forward with information, and whomever it is gets nailed. And I mean nailed, as in nailed to something, and left to die horribly in the desert with no water or food in the sun, covered in vegetable oil..
Welcome to FR, I second your ideas on the fate for this perp.
Cool. Although, in hindsight I'm embarrassed by my post, which I made in the heat of the moment. If I had waited, and thouht it out, I could have come up with something REALLY bad. ;)
You're gonna do fine here. :~D
There are just some very evil people walking around. I can't think of anything to say.... I just know how awful it would be if it happened to my critters.
I'd give this SOB 25 years in the pokey, minimum, to think about it.
I have never, never, not once, known of an individual who tortures animals who did not later abuse people.
We had people living with us who had a "Problem" kid. He broke my Burmese cat's leg with a broom handle. We were not sure about it, till he did it AGAIN after she healed.
That was twenty five years ago, and I have to live with the self-condemnation of not putting a bullet in that little bastard's head, because he later went on to wreck human lives.
The experience taught me that there truly IS such a thing as a kid who is thoroughly rotten, and intrinsically evil, "Born Innocent" arguments aside. We all known one, I bet, but no one wants to admit it.
Hurting animals are starting fires are two loud red sirens for shrinks, warning just as you say, there will be bigger trouble in the future.
I can't imagine what type of sick person or persons would do this. Hope they find 'em and that they are severely punished, NOT just a slap on the wrist.
As several others have said, there is a short step from doing this to an animal and killing a human.
No words will suffice.
