Whitney Houston Starts Work on New Album Today
fox ^ | 03/13/2007 | Roger Friedman

Whitney Houston begins in earnest to record her comeback album today.

Houston, who's been in rehab for about a year in Southern California, is about to make the tentative steps toward reclaiming her once-flourishing career.

The first step is venturing into a recording studio with superstar writer-producer Johnta Austin — pronounced "Jon-tay." Austin won a Grammy for co-writing Mariah Carey's hit "We Belong Together." The hope is that he can work his magic again with Houston.

I already told you in this space about a month ago that music mogul Clive Davis has already settled on roughly seven songs for Houston, including those by R. Kelly, Diane Warren and other big-name producers. Another name in the hat: a writer called Fernando.

One song Houston might try: Julia Fordham's "Angel Without Wings." In any case, until someone hears her sing, no one will know for sure if continued drug abuse and smoking has harmed Houston's famed voice. To that end, I hear she's been working with a good vocal coach.

Stay tuned.

Maybe she can get back to her glory without BobbyBrown.

Not to say I idn't have a Bobby Brown tape back in the day...just saying.

Its a shame she sank so low. Maybe she got tired of hearing American Idols rip apart her songs...

If he's such a "superstar", people already know how to pronounce his name.

How far gone and desperate for publicity are her people when she has to go so far as to make a story about how "She is about to work".... AMAZING.

I am wondering if Bobby is going to pull the ole Nick trick and try to get alimony from Whitney. What do they call it? Spousal Support?

Bobby had alot of money but Whitney's money was 20 times his.

She said she didn't smoke crack ~ that crack was cheap and losers smoke crack. She said she only snorted pure high quality cocaine. A woman of standards for sure.

But she is a pop star like Britney only far more talented. At least she didn't go completely bonkers like BS.

What a waste, hope she can make it back. Never will forget her singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl before the First Gulf War, WOW!

They got divorced. Or she filed, I know.

Whether or not they have completely cut ties, I don't know. They can't completely cut ties, I don't guess, because they have children together.

Clive Davis took on her rehab because he loves her as an artist and he knows she can recover. If they posed in front of cameras yesterday it's because it's part of his plan. I noticed she hung onto his arm the entire time. Davis will get her out in public in increments, so that when she performs in public, it won't be cold turkey, so to speak.

I saw Natalie Cole in Tahoe when she was on cocaine and couldn't sing most of the songs, Whe she tried Lucy in the Sky it was so bad, Lou Rawls took the stage early and turned it into a duet and walked her off the stage when it was done. He's a class act.

18 months later, I saw Cole in Tahoe again with her "Unforgettable" show, a tribute to her dad. Not a dry eye in the house and she nailed every song. She's still going strong today.

I think Whitney can do the same. She obviously went way off the deep end, but she can make it back all the way if she's determined. And people like Clive Davis can help her make it happen.
