VANCOUVER, Wash. - A Vancouver woman was charged with hit-and-run after a wild ride down the street Wednesday.
According to Kim Kapp of Vancouver Police, 69-year-old Virginia Martin got into an altercation with another driver after a reported fender bender at Wy'East Middle School while they were picking up kids Wednesday.

Police said the other driver, who was not identified, got out and asked to exchange insurance information when Martin refused.

That’s when Martin hit the woman while trying to drive off, and the woman somehow landed on the hood of the car, hanging on for more than a mile down Mill Plain Boulevard, police say.
Police said Martin's foster grandchild was also in the car at the time. Child Protective Services was also set to investigate.
Amazingly, the victim was not hurt.
Police charged Martin with attempted second-degree assault and felony hit-and-run, according to Kapp.
Martin's attorney said she was a diabetic who had not had her insulin in two days. The attorney told the judge she should have a mental health evaluation instead of jail time. Her bail was set at $10,000.

No. How would she drive? DUUHHHH!!!
Let's hope so. This will be determined after the mental health evaluation, but if she is unable to control her diabetes effectively and this is the way she reacts when she experiences an insulin imbalance then she is obviously a hazard to the community and should have her driving privileges revoked.

So many times, people who are hazards on the roadway are identified but nothing significant and meaningful such as a license revocation can be done because they haven't been convicted of a crime. Thankfully nobody was hurt in this instance and the legal process of protecting the community as well as protecting this Grandma can proceed.

Although most will not (unless it involves a prolonged medication absence such as in this case), some diabetics can definitely exhibit erratic behaviors when they experience an insulin imbalance, and hopefully any readers who have a diabetic in the family might keep this story in mind and pay attention to their loved ones' condition, and assist them if they show that they are having difficulties in insulin management.
I'm reading this as the "candy bar" excuse. With
relativism, there is no guilt. What rule of law?
There is an excuse for all of our bad behavior and

If she is so severely diabetic, why is she allowed
to foster parent?

Hopefully the rule of law will be invoked to it's most effective extent in this instance and the community will be protected and this Grandma will be forced to atone for her crimes. The mental health examination that she is undergoing will hopefully determine the extent of any medical difficulties that she is having. Child Protective Services is involved, and her fitness as a foster parent will be reevaluated.
There's no law against being mean (there would be no Democrat Party if that were the case) and so we can be thankful that a crime was committed, which allows legal proceedings to move forward.
I hope that I didn't imply a desire on my part to minimize her culpability in this matter; an insulin imbalance just as an alcohol or drug imbalance is no excuse for improper behaviors or improper vehicle operation. An insulin imbalance can, however, radically change the ways in which the brain works and I can understand how this could happen from a medical and physiological standpoint.. Of course, I don't excuse it, and she needs to be held fully accountable for her actions.

Woman jailed after letting 12-year-old drive in fatal crash
KELSO, Wash. (AP) - A woman who let her boyfriend's 12-year-old son drive the family car at the time of a crash in which the boy died has been arrested for investigation of first-degree manslaughter.
Kelley Hill, 34, of Woodland, was jailed Thursday with bail set at $500,000, Cowlitz County sheriff's Capt. Mark S. Nelson said.
Hill and her 12-year-old daughter, Trisha Delcoure, were riding in the family's 1993 Taurus when Jake L. Fry, son of her boyfriend, Loren Fry, lost control and collided with a 2005 Toyota Sequoia near Woodland on Feb. 26.
The boy died at a hospital the next day. Hill, her daughter and two people in the sport utility vehicle were treated for minor injuries.
Loren Fry has declined comment since the crash.
''I know it seems somewhat of a no-brainer that this is a crime,'' Nelson said, ''but truly, when you're talking about someone's life, both the life lost and the person charged, the one thing you need most is a thorough investigation.
''This young boy would most likely be alive today if the adult here had done the adult thing and said no.''
The manslaughter charge is based on the belief of authorities that Hill willfully disregarded what she knew were the dangers of allowing the boy behind the wheel.
''As a result of our investigation with a number of witnesses, plus some past history, it appears as though this may not have been the first time she allowed Jake to drive,'' Nelson said.
There has been no evidence to indicate that Hill was intoxicated or otherwise impaired, but a blood sample was taken and investigators are awaiting the results of laboratory tests, he added.
Immediately following the crash, Hill told investigators she was unable to recall much after the boy got into the driver's seat, Nelson said earlier.
''The story we were told was that he was asking if he could drive,'' Nelson said.

the senior lobby has managed not only to grab most of our tax dollars but a hold on free coffee and free crimes.....
