BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU women's basketball coach Pokey Chatman said Thursday she won't coach in the NCAA tournament, and The Times-Picayune of New Orleans reported on its Web site the resignation was prompted by the school's discovery of inappropriate conduct between Chatman and one or more players.
Assistant coach Bob Starkey, who will take over the team for now, declined to say whether he was aware of any improper conduct.
"There's been 20 to 25 things that are just floating out there, and I think she thought if she just stepped away from it she could eliminate that from even multiplying," Starkey said. "She has her reasons, and hopefully, soon she'll address that herself."
The Times-Picayune, citing university sources, offered few details, saying it was unclear when the alleged transgressions took place. ESPN.com reported LSU had found out about an improper sexual relationship between Chatman and a former player.
LSU athletic director Skip Bertman told the newspaper no formal investigation had taken place but that an informal investigation "might have happened."

My understanding is that she went to court to have her name legally changed to Pokey -- so it's not just a nickname.

All kidding aside, as an avid LSU basketball fan, I am truly shocked, and really liked Pokey.
She was doing a great job and had it made- successful program, well liked at the University, popular and active in the community.
I an still just hoping this "inappropriate contact" allegation is just a rumor.

Yeah, I agree if it was a "former" player. Any relationship with a current player would be inappropriate.
Oh, well, I wonder who we'll get to replace Pokey? The Advocate website this morning says that Bob Starkey will not be a permanent replacement. I wonder why not?

Kim's from right here where I live in Hammond, LA. I've heard that she may want to get closer to home. If Pokey's gone (which I'm seriously bummed over) I hope that Skip can talk Kim into coming to LSU.
And as far as the allegations go; who cares. I wish she would have stuck it out or made Skip fire her. She had to know she was going to have to address the issue publically one way or another.
