The Hobbit Hole XXXIII - And the brook that leaps from hill to plain...

Posted on 03/08/2007 2:40:27 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Now that is a very moving photo.

;-)

Good morning, HH. Today is our last official day of school. The last day of actual lessons. Monday is the day the virtual teachers say good-bye and there won’t be any assignment.

I’m thinking of taking the boys camping after school on Monday. Just packing up the tent and moving us clear down to the lake for a few days. It’s not very far away and Steve wouldn’t even have to take time off from work.

Ok...it is in the process of sending. (Dialup...with the pictures it takes forever.)

When you get it, can you set it up like a pdf for me? Do you have that capacity? I can’t even set it up as a Word doc. I only have Works.

Just wondering if anyone knows what RadioAstronomer did to get banned? I notice that a good many of the better known freepers either left or got thrown out. I’m starting to wonder about this place.

Anymore Sam, it is not a question of what one does, but who one is.

But I don't know the specifics regarding RadioAstronomer.

Hi Corin.

This place is turned upside down, it seems, or at least that’s my current perception.

And a lot of very vindictive people seem to have found favor here.

I understand Sam, and I don’t like it either.

RA was on that Big Ugly thread about the same time I was saying my piece, around the 9-10,000 post mark. I didn’t see him go down though.

I think they’re afraid, Sam. The pro-whoever people are afraid of Hillary winning but are at least glad to have someone to support. The anti-current-Republican-crop folks - like, honestly, me - are afraid of a Dem winning but aren’t too sure how much better certain people would be.

I mean, I’ve often been told not to be a “single issue voter”, but how can I vote for a candidate if the only thing I agree with him on is the war on terror? That’s big, but morally speaking I’m not sure I can vote for someone who supports abortion. Not even if the president has no influence on the question, I was raised to believe that supporting politicians like that was sinful and I’m not sure the Hillary-bogeyman is a sufficient moral argument.

So if I’m disturbed by this, you can bet there’s a lot of people way more disturbed. And there’s nothing that makes people meaner and more narrow-minded than just being scared. Unless it’s some other guy telling you why all your fears and concerns are stupid and not worth worrying over and just to sign your name on the line there and do as you’re told.

Probably. I'll fiddle around with it. Might even do it up html for ya.

I’m starting to wonder about this place.

The HH is safe. I suspect the storms will rage outside of our borders during this whole primary process. I predict it is going to get vey ugly. I predict we'll lose lots of FReepers to the rogue groups. I'll do my best to wipe my feet of primaries dirt before coming in the HH.

I hope you're right. But the hobbits thought the Shire wouldn't be touched by war, too. :-\

When Clare was about 9 months old, we did our first camping trip in the tent with the three kids. After having to haul the stuff from the back of the van to the picnic table to prepare and cook meals all weekend, I told SirKit that this was too much like WORK. That's when we got the pop up camping trailer. It was great because we just kept it stocked, so that if we wanted to go camping, we didn't have to pack everything, every time. When we returned from a trip, we'd wash the linens, restock the cabinets, and be ready for the next trip. I put old sheets, towels, cookware, etc in there when I'd replace what we had in the house.

The best part was that, if it was pouring rain, I didn't have to get out in it to cook, and the kids could play cards, games, etc inside and be out of the elements. We also made sure we had a three burner stove so that we could keep a pot of coffee on any time, and still have the other burners for cooking. ;o)

In other news...you know that new building that’s going in right by the interstate, kinda across from Ace?

Just in the last few days it’s become obvious that it’s going to be a HUGH gas station / travel station kinda place. With a McDonald’s and a Subway and such.

Pretty soon we won’t have to go to town. It’ll come to us. And probably bring roundabouts with it.

*sigh*

They're going to put the old truck stop out of business...

If they do, I just hope they have good pancakes.

I don’t think thenewplace is gonna have a real sit-down kind of a restaurant, so the truck stop’s probably safe. Can’t see truckers giving up a place that has decent food, and in ginormous portions.

Makes me wonder about our little store, though.
