Time for a new Free Republic Folding@home thread.
Our Free Republic team of 428 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 55th place (with 1,025 active CPUs - 106,120 completed Work Units and 20.25 million points).
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 30+ folding threads)
OK, I'm trying the Windows SMP (also running the Linux SMP on the same box but in VMWare). This will give me an easy transition to Windows if it's faster than Linux (even slowed in a VM), or back to Linux if the Windows client is a dog. Should be interesting to watch Pegasus (Linux in VM, Windows SMP and 2 single folding session to catch between WU time in the SMP clients).
I'm just a sick puppy.

Field notes for the Windows SMP client recommend a four core CPU for the SMP client.
Not 4 clients per CPU ;')
As long as the cores don't spend all their time thrashing between clients, fighting for memory and other resources, you should be good to go.
I know that Stanford likes their WUs back fairly quickly, but lots of guys are running multiple WUs on a single core system (like an Intel P4 HT chip). The WUs do not complete as fast, but the points are slightly elevated.
Let us know how it goes.
Also, the PS3 client will be released after the new 1.6 update is published, probably late Thursday night.
Ought to be a great weekend for Folding!
OK, I don't have enough computing power to run both SMP clients on a single box :(
Will let the Linux SMP client finish its current WU and then shut it down. Let's see how MS folding performs natively (why do I get a feeling I'm going to be disappointed).

It has not happened to me before.
Is there any way to tell what happened?
I am using kubuntu. I used the open office to look at the txt files but couldn't really glean anything from them.
I've had the same happen a time or two as well. I suspect Stanford will notice the error at some point and award us the missing part. Till then we just grin and bear it.
PS3 client is available.
Go to system update and download firmware 1.6 (doing so now)
Go to playstation store and download FAH
Happy folding.
Send me questions if things aren't making sense (as if I'll have a clue).
I'm right behind you. It was available at 12:40 AM Pacific time.
Took 10 minutes to DL V1.60 via PS3, 10 minutes to install and
Don't have a PS3, but here is a link to a thread on the download and setup of a PS3:

Some comments from the breathless folders gushing over the PS3:
"10 more minutes to DL F@H 50 Meg program.
"Heads Up" for F@H EULA there is NO Lisence Agreement Accept "X" option on the scroll down page - only a "O" Cancel.
YOU MUST USE LEFT ARROW TO GET TO THE ACCEPTANCE WINDOW.
Use the TRIANGLE to get to the OPTIONS window for SETUP prefs - Name, Team etc.
By 7:30 AM my first WU will be completed in six hours - 0.0439 seconds/frame.
PS 3 right side temp is 100 degrees F, back temp is 120 degrees F after one hour processing."
Wow. Only 100 degrees F?
"I'm in. Press triangle while in the visual client to change your username and team number. Press square to see what the other controls do. It took me a few minutes to figure that out...
It's working on p3128_hisvillin_e2
Running at 0.0787 seconds/frame
It's seems VERY fast and the protein model and globe are awesome. I guess the globe shows where each PS3 is? The yellow dots are hard to see in the US."
takes forever to download the client.
8 hours and 42 minutes :)
Set client and team - confirmed
(remember to click the triangle on your pad to set options)
I'm a happy folder
What happened yesterday that you garnered over 7,000 points?
Were you affected by the points server slowdown, or did your Win-SMP kick in?
Everything hit in one day. Look at the day before, it just sucked. Today will be moderate (hopefully). I could use a lot more days like yesterday if I intend to put you in my rear-view mirror anytime soon :)

Spring break?
A major folder on "The Outcast" who were gaining on us faster than Clinton can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch, seems to have given up??? zim01 http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=201576
has dropped off significantly. Could be a big break for us or it could be a school lab shut down for spring break. Is it spring break anywhere?
Spring break almost everywhere. Both of my boys have the week off :)
Just converted my second box over from Linux-SMP to Windows-SMP, but it's not having any luck grabbing a WU. Have you heard of any complaints about WU distribution (at least on the Win-SMP side)?
JosephW
Well, I'm having what should be a pretty good day if any points would post :)
Hey everyone --- new thread Here!
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1805959/posts
Change that tirle to **54th** We just passed Linux!
Yep, time for a new thread. I started one about the adoption of the PlayStation 3 and Folding@home.
Next thread will have us tweaking the nose of the Linux dudes.
Where do you think we will eventually end up?
