I know of at least one very unhappy customer...a woman I work with just brought a new PC with Vista. Her printer doesn't work, and they told her she needs to buy a new one. It is a USB printer, only three years old. Granted, she could buy a new one for small money, but that isn't the point.

She was also angry because she got Office 2007, and her PC at work wouldn't open the files on things she worked on at home. I told her that was fixable, but she wasn't at all happy.

In another development, the Apple fanboys demand a return the horse and carriage for everyone else apart from those who use Apple and Linux computers..
Hey, we have too much carbon emissions from cars, right?

Hey, Microslop.

Don't bother. I think the Republic would be better served for you to avoid bothering.

Let a larger percentage of your beleagured and abuse customer base get their consciences raised much higher . . . about

how deeply, broadly and painfully they've been cheated, shredded, exasperated, robbed from, ignored, abused, hung out to dry, ran ragged . . .

all for greed, arrogance and no good reason.

Let a larger proportion of your customer serfs and slaves wake up more and realize that Linux is a lot more rational and about as user friendly already.

Some of us customers have the audacity to think that customers are to be treated with respect and SERVED vs abused and robbed from. Some of us have about had it up to the tops of our pointy heads and are increasingly not willing to take it any more.

Greedy arrogance is a poor business model for success. Extreme wealth and extreme aroogance may blunt the market place's correction for a long time. But eventually, you will reap the horrors you have so persistently sown.

Why would they have to re-release something that is still in print and for sale? Last time I looked you could still buy Windows 2000. (that may be gone by now, but I looked less than a year ago.)

I really love XP. They'll have to force me to switch while kicking and screaming. On my primary home workstation I haven't needed to format in 4 years now. I don't think there's an original piece of hardware in the rig, but the install is the same since lol.

Yet another reason I'm switching to Ubuntu Linux on my next PC.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Reintroducing Windows 95. I'd love to see that...

Overall, I have been very happy with XP. It is the best version of Windows, ever. Win2000 (NT 5.0) was a good step forward, but in Microsoft tradition, XP (NT 5.1) is more stable and versatile.

That said, and now with Vista out there, I'm thinking about the future and installed Ubuntu on an old box (Pentium II 400 mhz, 319 or so Mb of RAM) I have. So far it looks pretty good. Ubuntu is very intuitive and handles some network tasks easier than does XP. My other boxes and laptops we use regularly are Pentium IV 1.5 ghz or better with at least 500 mb of RAM. There may be some compatibility issues with hardware, but I think I know where I'm going when I have to upgrade.

My sister, a complete computer newbie with absolutely no knowledge of how they work or why except how to save a Word document at the office, went and ordered one from Dell last month so she can get email when she retires later this year.

They sent her one with a Vista OS and what she is finding out is the almost no one can help her do the most minimal of tasks -- friends who know about XP can't assist and even her new high speed internet provider says they do not support the Vista system. The put the cable modem in and that was it.

However, she told me today that, BTW, they sent her an XP disc with the computer!! I'm planning on calling Dell for her and see if the XP system version can be installed. Do I want a dual boot or should I just have the Vista OS un-installed and run only XP? Comments anyone?
