HELP - Computer Problem - Can't rotate images OR text in textboxes!
self

Posted on 02/23/2007 8:39:36 PM PST by Stultis

This is really driving me nuts. It's not just one program either. In both MSWord, and in the label creator thingy that comes with NERO, there are commands to rotate images, or the text in textboxes, but they're greyed out! For instance I'm trying to change the direction of the text to print down the spine of a DVD case insert, but I can't do it. The text will only go across the page.

I have Windoze XP.

I know these rotation/geometry commands work on other computers, but for SOME reason not on mine.

I can't figure out what is causing this!! Please help!!!

Make sure the appropriate toolbars are turned on. Make sure you have text/objects selected. Otherwise, certain boxes might be grayed out, until text/objects are selected. Sounds like maybe the options of the program got changed somehow.

Have you tried Googling your problem to see if any forums address this?

Did you 'highlight' the item before trying to manipulate it?

Go to word art and use the help. It is fairly simple.

Haven't found the right search words yet to zero in on the problem. Will try when I'm refreshed and less stressed.

Are you trying to use the Rotate options on the Draw menu (on the Drawing toolbar at the bottom of the screen)?

Instead, try this:

1. Click the drawing object or table cell that contains the text you want to change.
2. On the Format menu, click Text Direction.
3. Click the orientation you want.

Go to word art

Hmmm. Worth a look, if I can remember where to find that. But note the same problem exists with inserted images. And it's not just in Word. (Although maybe the other program I'm tyring to use ties into Word functions through dll's or something?)

If you think it's spyware, try running a scan.

Any luck?

I tried my Nero Cover Designer. I've never used it before so I had to do some reading.

I was able to insert a text box in the DVD spin template. But when typing the text "THIS IS MY DVD", it showed up like this:

T
H
IS

IS

M
Y

D
V
D

I could not find a way to rotate the text naturally.

The only way I could get it to print down was to hit 'enter' after every letter. There has to be an easier way.

No, darn it. No luck. In Nero Cover Designer -- my problem is on a different computer so I'm trying to remember -- the command to rotate isn't in the textbox properties, but is on a right-click context menu. Right click in the textbox and select "Geometry".

I've been all through the settings in Nero, in MS Word and Windows Control Panel. There SOMETHING somewhere that's preventing me from rotating both text and pictures, but I still have no idee what!

2. On the Format menu, click Text Direction.

O.K. THAT works, in Word. But I still can't rotate pictures in Word, and can't rotate pictures or text in Nero Cover Designer. This is SOOOOO weired.

Anyway thanks loads for your suggestion.
