Troubled Britney Spears has tried to commit suicide, it was claimed today.
A US newspaper said the singers' meltdown is so severe she has actually attempted to take her own life.
She tried to walk in front of oncoming traffic and threatened to overdose on anti-depressant Xanax.
Her erratic behaviour has forced her family to put her on a suicide watch.
A source told the paper Britney rowed with estranged husband Kevin Federline on Valentine's Day.
She had been hoping for a reconciliation but he said he wanted custody of Sean Preston, 17 months, and Jayden James, 5 months, and wanted a hair follicle from her for drug testing.
The source told: "Britney was crying and said she would kill herself if she lost the boys.
"She started pulling her hair and told Kevin she would cut it all off before anyone touched it."
The paper says despite the family immediately putting her under watch, the 25-year-old escaped and tried to walk in front of oncoming traffic.
Later she grabbed the bottle of Xanax and threatened to take the whole lot.
The source said: "Britney's family is terrified she'll end up like Anna Nicole Smith - on a cold slab in a morgue, leaving her young sons without a mother."
They added: "She's on the same self-destructive path."

It wouldn't surprise me. Federline could be tested but he's probably been advised by an attorney to stay clean. There's a lot of money riding on this. As for his hair, he keeps it so short there wouldn't be enough to find anything. When he appeared on RAW not too long ago he had almost no hair at all.
I guess they could always take hair from another part of his body. I just think its a shame that the children have to suffer. I often wonder why these stars have children when they lead lifestyles that shouldn't include children. I just don't see how you fit being a full time mother in with being a full time star and party girl. You can't...IMO ~P~
dont talk like that
skanks need lovin' too
Which is probably the reason she shaved her head, in a vain attempt to thwart such a procedure. (Shaving the head does not elimitate the folicle, which is what's used to determine drug use over an extended period).
To all: I think anyone who believes in God, especially any Christian, should keep her in prayer, and not hold any contempt for her. She's a human being for goodness sakes, who's obviously tormented by some "demons" (however one may take that term). Speaking as a Christian, we should be praying for her, not saying, "She's getting what she deserved" or "Now that she's not hot anymore, who cares", or any other such contemptuous statements.
The reaction on FR to her public meltdown has been shameful. Simply because someone is a celebrity, doesn't mean they "deserve a hard fall". I wouldn't wish the despair, lonliness, hurt and sorrow that comes with a desire for suicide on anyone, even the Clintons. If anyone who calls themselves Christian is reading this now but has partaken in the party-like atmosphere that's surrounding the news of this poor woman, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Posting articles from or articles that source National Enquirer-type magazines is a waste of bandwidth.
Is this a female-oddity three-pack?
NASA Astronaut - wearing diapers and trying to kill a rival
Anna Nicole - wearing clown makeup and overdosing on drugs
Britney Spears - shaving her head and trying to kill herself(?)
Well......you can love her in my place then.
LOL
Thank you for speaking the truth.
