i think you might be wrong on this one and i don't understand how all this works to honest.
1. i LOVE my mac, i really like my linux and my XP is useful sometimes.
2.for some reason mac looks the worse when reading text, it has a slight blur to it. like its out of focus or something.
that being said i use it until my eyes hurt and then walk away. i like the OS so much i will use it until it causes me pain.

The Mac is known for its screen rendering ability. That is one of the reasons it is so popular with graphic artists, page layout, etc. The Mac uses the built in hinting used for improving TrueType and Postscript fonts in printing. What kind of monitor are you using? I haven't had any eyestrain since I got rid of my CRT. I have a 20" Cinema Display. 1680 X 1050 in millions of colors.
