You know when I was in high school I spent many weekends alone. Now I don't think I'm that great, but I guess I'm kind of cute. One guy who always had the guts to talk to me and was around me for the longest time was my best friend's ex-boyfriend. One day we were talking and I told him of my problem. He said, "Well, the reason is because guys are intimidated by you. They're scared to talk to you." I always remembered that because it was the last conversation we ever had, but also because it was so funny to me.
My particular advantage was to have figured this out in my 20's, which led me to be rather fearless in approaching women. In retrospect, I would have been more cautious, especially since I was living in New York back then, and some of them turned out to be, well, how do I say this nicely? err...psychotic.
I lucked out big time, though - I moved back to Boston and met the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen in my life - and married her. And that's the truth.
