Thousands of people from all over the world have e-mailed or contacted a 15-year-old Florida girl about possible remedies for her extreme case of endless hiccups.
Speaking in a national television interview Monday, Jennifer Mee of St. Petersburg, Fla., said she was in science class on January 23 when she first began to hiccup uncontrollably .
Since Mee's story appeared on Local6.com and several other news sites, thousands of people have offered possible cures.
Local6.com received sympathetic e-mails and calls from viewers throughout the country.
The 15-year-old has had blood tests, a CT scan and an MRI since the fits started. Drugs haven't worked. Neither has holding her breath, putting sugar under her tongue, sipping pickle juice, breathing into a paper bag and drinking from the wrong side of a glass.
Mee, who has been hiccupping about 50 times a minute since January, said the rapid contractions hurt in her back and chest and she is in pain.
A report said the family has some ideas about possible causes and hopes for treatment.
Chugalug about half a can of soda (nowadays usually Fresca, but once Coke Classic) nearly always works for me...but stubborn hiccups that soda or sugar won't budge, I use the 1 teaspoon of French's yellow mustard...
I'm starting to feel like she's stalking me on the forum.
Sure thing. It's easy.
Standing with the glass in front of you just like you are about to take a drink normally, instead put your lips on the far side rim of the glass. (your chin will now be smack in the center of the glass, like you've just scored a hole-in-one with your chin.)
Now slowly lean the top half of your body forward and downward while you lift the bottom of the glass toward your chest. It's like you're about to do a somersault from a standing postion while you pour the glass forward, away from your torso (but into your mouth since your head is now even further forward.)
It takes just a little practice getting the feel for either pouring/tilting the glass too slowly or too quickly.
I usually try to drink from a large tumbler with a little less than a pint of H2O.
I'll have to try that. Thanks for the explanation.
Any news??????
