Aren't the Raiders required by law to draft a QB in the first round this year?
To: somemoreequalthanothers
LOL!! One would think.
Jamarcus may be a good fit there.

I vote also for Oakland to take a quarterback first..and Jamarcus sounds like a good fit.

With the #1 pick I would like to see two things occur:
1) Draft Russell, thereby ending the Aaron Brooks/Andrew Walter Experiment for the forseeable future
or
2) Trade down. I still would like to see some veterans on the O-line, but I'm not too terribly optimistic

Is Gallery a draft bust or is there hope for him yet?
To: somemoreequalthanothers
This is a big topic of discussion on the Raiders message board I peruse, but as for me, I'm in the "Bust" camp. Unless he moves to center and if there's one spot on the line he really can't play, it's C.

I am a Saints fan and I watched quite a few games with Jamarcus Russell at LSU.
I think he may be a bit like Brooks, great arm, some inconsistencies in reading the defense. The thing that will make Jamarcus better is the fact that he is a leader, a trait sorely lacking in Brooks.

Who won the Heisman? why wasn't Troy Smith in the top 5? Could it be because he's a midget?
To: Echo Talon
His performance in the National Title game didn't help matters much.

I think he was measured 6" even at the combine.
To: Pharmboy
oops 6'... mini-me sheesh...

Russell looks like Roethlisberger the way he eludes pass rushers in the pocket. Of course, he has a stronger arm and better deep ball. But accuracy is a big question.
To everyone who's watched Brady Quinn play: Do you really think if this kid didn't play for Notre Dame and have model good looks, he'd actually be a top-3 pick. His accuracy is worse than Russell, and he doesn't have the physical tools.
If I were the Raiders, I'd pick Calvin Johnson or Joe Thomas, who look like sure things at need positions, then pick up a Jeff Garcia or Matt Schaub and hope for a QB next year when the pickins are better. They are in a multi-year rebuilding plan anyway.

I'm really getting tired of people hyping Russell up simply because he did well in the Sugar Bowl. And, no, the Raiders will not draft him. I'll tell you what the Raiders will do: trade for Byron Leftwich, then draft Calvin Johnson.

Ain't happening. Expect to see Byron Leftwich starting at QB for you in 2007. Also expect to see him throw to Calvin Johnson.
