Last time I checked, the proper usage was bitten on the foot. Do these editors even bother to try any more?

Actually, since it happened in the south, the correct usage should have said, "He done got bit in the foot."

More on the same story from local6.com:

Vernon Messier, 57, was wearing a diver's wet suit and standing in waist-deep water on the No. 5 hole of the Timber Greens Golf Course Wednesday morning when the alligator bit his left foot, a Pasco County sheriff's spokesman said.

Messier told deputies he gouged at the alligator's eyes and tried to pry its jaws apart while trying to free himself.

Messier refused medical treatment, and said he would drive himself to a hospital.

He suffered minor injuries to his foot, according to authorities.

Messier said he is an independent contractor who collects golf balls from the course for resale.
