The official weekend (substitute) thread (9-11th Feb 2007)
9th February 2007 | Snugs

Next week is Valentine's Day which for some of us if we are single can be depressing on the other hand we do not have the dilemma will We buy the right bottle of perfume, wine or box of chocolates. Will we pick the right restaurant, movie or play.

Instead of concentrating on the lack of a partner at the time of year lets look at the positives of our lives as singles. Places we can go, things we can do without having to negotiate with a partner.

Some may have children or elderly parents which means you are restricted but even so these are family members that most times offer unconditional love and support even if at times it does not seem like it. A partner gives love but often conditional love, a relationship that has to be worked at rather than being born into. There are great rewards in both and pressures in both.

As singles we can also appreciate and enjoy seeing happy couples this Valentines and sympathising with those who are just acting it out and being thankful once again that being single is preferable in many cases to pretending.

Be positive lets think of happy past Valentine Days maybe as a child for a lot of women when your father made you feel special. I know several families where the father always sends valentine cards to his daughters even though they are grown just to make sure they are not forgotten.

Come on all lets have fun and not dwell on what we do not have but celebrate that what we do have.

Chuck Norris does not eat. Food understands that the only safe haven from Chuck Norris' fists is inside his own body.

Chuck Norris knows the last digit of pi.

That is great idea. I can remember as teenagers if one of in our youth group fancied someone else in the same group we would contribute in helping them send a secret card. Maybe one would sign it the other deliver it so that the lad would not know who it came from

The opening scene of the movie "Saving Private Ryan" is loosely based on games of dodgeball Chuck Norris played in second grade.

Chuck Norris once shot down a German fighter plane with his finger, by yelling, "Bang!"

Faster than a speeding bullet ... more powerful than a locomotive ... able to leap tall buildings in a single bound... yes, these are some of Chuck Norris's warm-up exercises.

Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris.

I totally agree about the identity thing but unfortunately so many people feel that their identities are in being a wife/husband/mother/father/grandmother/grandfather. All of these are great things to aspire to but when it becomes an all consuming goal or something that seem unattainable and that makes the person feel they have failed and have no identity it can become self destructive.

I stayed in a relationship much longer than I should have because I loved the person and wanted it to work. What I forgot was that it takes 2 to feel the same plus there were many negatives about the relationship as a partnership as a friendship great and well worth keeping but not as as future marital partner.

I know feel much more at peace over the situation and can look back at some great times we had and look forward to future times as friends.

Chuck Norris is a terrible substitute host for Sean Hannity.

Well, that's because good hosts don't rip their co-hosts heads off.

let's all make cookies together....the condition is --- there has to be a frosting fight! anyone up for it? or do I need to go play somewhere else??

i grew up with butter fights at the dinner table, usually started by my dad! when the kitchen sink had a new edition of the sprayer put in, it began water fights after supper when we were cleaning up the dishes! the food fights weren't HUGE, but always fun! well, ok, nothing big until my sister decided to get my "big brother" jack with her wedding cake .... in the face.... the whole family got into. (the wedding was called off on account of a schitzophrenic groom, so the cake had to be made good use of). mom made the mistake of being too close, trying to get pictures and jack proceeded to get her in the face as well! by the time it was over, many of the family and extended family had cake and frosting on them! wedding cake all over the place in the living room!! (great stress reliever, and not a single scolding from anyone.)

An embarrassing attempt to make his enemies seem less pathetic.

At the end of the show, it wasn't the credits rolling; it was a list of casualties.

we all say things at times that didn't come off the way we meant them. we all make mistakes. we all have hurts in our lives, and wounds in our hearts. some of us are more healed than others. the thing i love about FR is that people here are so kind, caring and forgiving of our 'oops-es', blunders, and pains. it is a 'community' and 'family'.

ok, at my house, if someone says they are sorry, it needs to be acknowledge. field' the apology is accepted, and you are forgiven.

i do not believe that the thread was pulled solely on your behavior, field'. i think it may have been a myriad of things...

want a cookie, field?! anyone?

have to help frost them first!! :;grin::

I missed the first thread...maybe it was just as well!

One more "future love" type song...maybe a little old and a little sappy, but I still like it. OK, so it really is being sung to someone who is there present, but I still like to think of it as more of a someone-I-haven't-met kind of love song.

WHEN I FALL IN LOVE (Nat King Cole)

When I fall in love it will be forever
Or I'll never fall in love
In a restless world like this is
Love is ended before it's begun
And too many moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun

When I give my heart it will be completely
Or I'll never give my heart
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you.

My brother and sister-in-law played this as their first dance at their wedding reception. *snif*
