America's love affair with sports is undeniable. I, along with millions of others, watched every minute of the Super Bowl, and was deeply disappointed by the outcome. However, I wonder if it is morally wrong for the American public to be so wrapped up in the Bears and the Colts while so many of our young men and women are in harm's way in Iraq.
Why not put the College Bowl games, the NFL playoffs, the NCAA basketball championship, professional basketball and baseball playoffs, etc., on hold until our troops are back home? In this manner, maybe we could all feel the pain of war, even if our pain was only figuratively. A literal ''pain'' we should all accept would be an additional ''wartime'' income tax -- say, a 5 percent surcharge to everyone's tax liability. Military families should be exempt from this and all income taxes, as they are already paying dearly for this war. If my ideas were accepted, I am sure the American people would demand a speedier return of our troops.

And baseball also had the women players as well. The Tom Hanks movie, League of Their Own, was based on that.
Yes sports went on at home. This Kramer guy is as dumb as a sack of hair.
Sack of hair makes sad face :(
At least he's showing his true colors. Normally, when the Dems call for things like a return to the draft and a "war tax" they try to claim that it is to promote a "shared sacrifice" such as the population had to endure in WWII.
At least this guy is basically admitting, that his goal is to impose as much pain on the American People as possible, and then linking the end of the pain, to the end of the war. Kind of like saying, we should hit everyone on the head with a hammer daily until the war stops, as a means to generate opposition to the war.
He needend't worry, the daily drumbeat of defeat from the Capitol, along with a media all too willing to demonize the U.S. Milittary will do the job soon enough.
"If my ideas were accepted, I am sure the American people would demand a speedier return of our troops."
And there we have it, this is nothing more thana self loathing liberal attempt to concede defeat to our enemies. Anti-american in every way. For this person alone, I am happy the Bears lost.
Even the Germans kept their stadiums full for their soccer matches through the middle of World War II.
Your #14 is a great post. Many people don't realize.
"the American troops in Rome stage a "Spaghetti Bowl."and the teams were probably made of players that would have been the stars in the college ranks had it not been for the war. The two top teams in the country during the war years were Army and Navy because the war took the football players.
A little football history here from http://www.irishlegends.com/Pages/calendar/11.asp
Remember that World War ll ended in 1945.
November 9,1946: A titanic struggle between two powerhouse teams ends in a 0-0 tie for Notre Dame and Army. Notre Dame students, stung by two consecutive losses with military depleted teams, 59-0 and 48-0, chanted "59 and 48, this is the year we retaliate!" The game is also famous for Leahy distaining to go for the game winning field goal late in the game, and Notre Dame was stopped on downs near the goal line. Also famous was Johnny Lujack's diving touchdown and game saving tackle of Doc Blanchard.
