....In June, the Austin, Texas-based natural foods grocery chain said it would stop selling live lobsters and crabs — in the name of crustacean compassion. But it’s making an exception in Maine, a state synonymous with lobster

Given that its Maine, I'd say its pretty much a guarantee some genius will try to electrocute the lobster while it's still in the tank.

Too cool.

This is a perfect example of Democrat/liberal principle.

"We refuse to do this ANYWHERE at ANYTIME (except a little bit here and there)"

I stick mine in the freezer for a bit before they go to that big hot tub in the sky.

The cold puts them into semi-hibernation. And it makes them easier to handle.

Sounds to me like these crunchy granola leftists are willing to compromise their lofty, compassionate principles in order to make a buck. I never thought I'd live to see the day. (end sarcasm)

May the boiled screams of Maine lobsters haunt the nightmares of these cruel commercial exploiters of our natural sea! Wait, I can see it now: Maine crustacean activists do an "inside" film job of boiled lobsters, titling it, "Unsilent Scream."

That's a good tip on cooling the lobsters down. This thread made me so hungry I went to one of those sites that ships live lobsters to order a couple.

Back when I worked as a commercial fisherman, part of my job was whacking halibut on the snout with a sawed-off baseball bat to stun them so I could gut and clean them. Big halibut fight like all get out.

Maybe WF would have preferred we use a cattle prod.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals would prefer that Whole Foods not sell live lobsters, but it said the company should be commended for ensuring that the animals are being treated humanely.

Now that Peta's pet butchering duo of Hinkle and Cook just got off with a "littering" conviction for killing dozens of healthy dogs and cats, perhaps they can set their Lobster Electric Chair circus up near the entrance of Hole in the Head foods and charge a small donation to electrocute lobsters, or anything else they think would be better off dead than hand fed.

The Whole Foods by me is filled with with smug, self absorbed X gen types that believe eating "organic" food is better for them.....

As a result, Whole Food charges premium prices for everyday food....

Stupid customers, holier than thou store....

I hate Whole Foods

Ditto on that. When in Texas I prefer "Central Market" (owned by HEB Corp). Much better selection than (W)hole Foods.

Starving young women and sucking the brains from babies is a right! but boil a lobster (unless it hails from Maine) well, that is the time to take a stand.

Liberal hypocrisy..enough to make your head spin.

Hmmm...the ones near me are filled with Boomers with gray ponytails (yah, the guys too),Birkenstocks and they drive either Porche SUV's sporting a Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker,a Prius Hybrid or a 25 year old Toyota sporting a "Think Locally,Act Globally",a "Bush Lied,Millions Died" and a "Keep Your Rosaries Off My Ovaries" bumper sticker.

True, but you gotta admire how efficiently Whole Foods separates rich liberals from their money.

Actually, their meat, produce and cheeses are a cut above an ordinary store, but very pricey.

I heard about this story on local talk radio (Gunny Bob Show on 850am KOA) last night. People were calling in from all over the country with suggestions on how to 'disable' the lobster so it wouldn't feel the pain of the boiling water.

One caller said that he orders Maine lobster a few times a year. To stun it he uses an eyedropper to force feed it a few drops of vodka. He said the lobster just shuts down.

I think the lobsters ought to be more worried about a Whole Foods employee who might be like that twisted sick deputy, 'Percy', from the movie 'The Green Mile'. They might forget to wet the sponge when strapping the lobster in the chair before it gets zapped.

i delivered there to help my dad while i was layed off. I agree, WHAT A FRIGGING FREAK SHOW!. it’s one thing going in and getting what you want then getting out but to be in five diff stores 5 days a week, my god, I almost went insane. as long as the suckers keep spending 300% more for a loaf of bread my dad is happy. I on the other hand do not miss that place at all.
