What's the best adultery song?
SF Gate ^ | February 02 2007 | Dave Morey

What's the best adultery song?

In light of current events, KFOG's Dave Morey conducted a contest this morning for the best adultery song ever.

His listeners (of a certain demographic) nominated a bunch, including the Eagles' "Lyin' Eyes," Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," and Derek and the Dominos' "Layla" -- which has the advantage of being about the most famous adulterous affair since, what, Paris and Helen of Troy?

Dave's winner: "Me and Mrs. Jones," by Billy Paul, which isn't much musically but does have lyrics that resonate with people who've got a thing going on.

Even more poignant, though not reflective of the mess at City Hall, there's Whitney Houston's "Saving All My Love For You."

I heard one of my favorites on a classic rock station on my way home from work today-"Midnight Confessions" by The Grassroots.

There's another one I haven't heard in a long time that came out like maybe early 80's-don't remember the rock group, but the lyrics said something about "We both have a lover out of town, we both like foolin' around", and went on to say that their love would still never die-sounded co-dependent to me-does anyone know who the group was and the title of the song?

"If Lovin' You is Wrong" is one of my favorites, too.

"Lyin' Here With Linda on my Mind" still gets played on the jukebox of the most popular restaurant in this community at least twice every Saturday night, too-they have every rock and country song ever made on that jukebox-it's magic...

I vote for The Chairman
Frank Sinatra - Please Be Kind Lyrics

Well, this is my first affair, please be kind
Handle my heart with care, please be kind
This is all so grand, my dreams are on parade
If you'll just understand, they'll never, never fade

So tell me your love's sincere, please be kind
Tell me I needn't fear, please be kind
'cause if you leave me, dear, I know my heart will lose its mind
If you love me, please be kind

This is my first affair, so a-please be kind
Handle my heart with care, oh a-please be kind

So tell me your love's sincere, yes, please be kind
Tell me I needn't fear, please be kind
'cause if you leave me, dear, I know my heart will lose its mind
If you love me, baby, please be kind

One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer
Hey mister bartender come here
I want another drink and I want it now

My baby she gone, she been gone two night
I ain't seen my baby since night before last
One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer

Most drinking songs revolve around some woman.

I was at their concert in Dallas (SMU McFarlin auditorium) in 71, it was just a few months before Duane got killed. They were great I was in a band and our bass player knew some of the production people and got us front row seats.

It hurt my ears but I just couldn't believe how talented Duane was and I have seen most of the big name guitarist from that period. Duane was a one of a kind talent it was a sad day when he got killed.

I've heard the Thorogood version, didn't know that was a John Lee Hooker cover.

'What's He Doin' in My World' lyrics by EDDY ARNOLD

What's he doin' in my world?
What's he doin' holdin' my world?
If he's not more than just a friend
Why were you kissin' him?
And what's he doin' in my world?

What's he doin' in my world?
Did you tell him that you're my girl?
If your love is really true
Tell him my world's made for two.
What's he doin' in my world?

Oh, don't let me keep on wonderin'
Just what you're gonna do.
Wondering if the one I love,
Loves somebody new.
What's he doin' in my world.

We don't need him here in our world.
So if it's true he's just a friend
Explain those kisses you gave him.
And what's he doin' in my world?...

I have them both on my I-pod and like them both. Thorogood has a lot more energy of course and he took the original and added a story about no job, no place to stay and friends who won't help but he still includes the original lyrics. John Lee sticks to the original and does his usual excellent job on it.

David Allan Coe has one of the best adultary songs ever written: Unfortunately the lines to it are a litle risque' to print in here.

I don't know about the best, but 2 of the sappiest cheating songs are "Torn Between 2 Lovers" by Mary MacGregor and "(I'm Only)Human" by The Human League. More whining than you'd find in a Neil Young album...

Fine! This is... my favorite! Homer's, too! Grab a beer and sing along...

Over hill, over dale

As we hit the dusty trail,

And the Caissons go rolling along.

In and out, hear them shout,

Counter march and right about,

And the Caissons go rolling along.

Then it's hi! hi! hee!

In the field artillery,

Shout out your numbers loud and strong,

For where e'er you go,

You will always know

That the Caissons go rolling along.

In the storm, in the night,

Action left or action right

See those Caissons go rolling along

Limber front, limber rear,

Prepare to mount your cannoneer

And those Caissons go rolling along.

Then it's hi! hi! hee!

In the field artillery,

Shout out your numbers loud and strong,

For where e'er you go,

You will always know

That the Caissons go rolling along.

Was it high, was it low,

Where the hell did that one go?

As those Caissons go rolling along

Was it left, was it right,

Now we won't get home tonight

And those Caissons go rolling along.

Hey! You pudknocker... It is "Best Adultery Song!" Not 'Artillery Song,' numbnuts!

What the hell? I dated a Self-Propelled Howitzer once...

And she was married! So, keep on a singing!

Limber front, limber rear,

Prepare to mount your cannoneer

And those Caissons go rolling along.

Then it's hi! hi! hee!

In the field artillery,

Shout out your numbers loud and strong,

For where e'er you go,

You will always know

That the Caissons go rolling along.

That the Caissons go rolling along.

That the Caissons go rolling along.
