Setting the "World Ablaze" by John Ferling is an interesting book that isn't "fawning". It tells the darker side of Jefferson and gives references as to where his letters are to be found. The book also covers Washington and Adams.
Forrest McDonald has a great sense of humor in a subtle sort of way and he likes to cut back against the grain. The DNA "evidence" he argued did not indict Jefferson and points instead to the wayward kin.

LOL THAT'S something they don't like to discuss. Mr. Coward, etc. Shocked he sent out MIL to shut down the Barbary terrorists. But then, that wasn't his butt on the line, unlike during the RevWar.
Jefferson wasn't terrible but he wasn't as great as made out to be.
