How does Google-News work? or How can we get FR to appear in there?
Posted on 01/27/2007 9:22:42 PM PST by PRePublic
I see all those far left websites bumped at http://news.google.com, let alone AlJazeera "info", but even less recognized far left or even Arabist, Islamisdts "sources".
Question is, How does that team of Google-News work? Is there a team taht decides who's on & who's not?

Google is a selctive, left-wign organization. It would probably not be open to FR or any other conservative sites.

The problem is that FreeRepublic just links to articles from other media sources. There is *some* original content, but the site simply is not organized around it. It's organized as an aggregator. So, it's not fit for Google News.
FreeRepublic could set up a blog that aggregates original articles posted by FR members. That would make it feasible to cite FreeRepublic as a news source.

This may be a sidebar to the main question but...
I signed up for Google News Alerts via e-mail under various keywords. Every so often I get Google e-mails alerting me to a Free Republic thread about the keyword. I've even gotten News Alerts to threads I posted.
So Google is "reading" us as news, at least in part.

Thanks for your great reply, but so does lefty indymedia, If I am not mistaken.
Actually by in large, FR linking to other sources makes it more "busy" on main google as a whole, but never on news.google.com

That's encouraging, though I never bump into it when I just go to http://news.google.com which MOST online users do.
