Jakey is getting a baby brother! Feel free to give me name ideas, pure bred Standard Poodle, champion bloodlines, I got him here, http://www.parrishill.com/

I read you shouldn't take the biggest or smallest of the litter, but I also read how to "test" a puppy. Even though he's the smallest puppy he was relaxed when I held him, relaxed when I put him in the cruk of my arm and looked me in the eyes for a long time. He was alert and looked when I clapped and he was the only one who cocked his head to say "what" when I talked to him. He held his own with the other puppies without being too rambunctous. He allowed me to hold him out with no other support and didn't squirm and looked me in the eyes, he allowed me to put him on his back and played and swatted at my fingers. He did all the right things you want from a puppy except he was the "runt" of the litter. I was assured that there should only be a difference in height of all the puppies of about 2 inches anyway. I'll post more pictures when I get him in 3 weeks, in the interm I will visit and handle him as much as possible so that the move is less stressful for him. On to the pictures!

Oh yes, your pup is most definetly a standard poodle. Your full-grown boy is a handsome fella. My spaniel/poodle reply was to HoosierHawk's buddy in #176.

As to name, my 0 cents worth is that he looks like a Joey or a Davy, but you'll know better when he's running around your home.

afraidfortherepublic: I take back everything I ever said about poodles. I'm quite sure that they are the smartest breed out there, after training with a couple of poodles atwatching my daughter's dog. They put my Golden to shame with their intelligence and trainability.

word-warrior-bob: I was the same with poodles until I got my first one, I don't mean to denigrate any other breeds when I talk about their intelligence which you've been exposed to. I would love a dumb, happy, mutt just as much.

If you ever told me I would be a poodle enthusiast I would probably have said there's about as much chance as that as me wearing a Tutu and becoming a ballerina.

I, too, had to eat my words about poodles. A poodle I rescued caused me to do a 180, and now I freely admit that I'm a poodleholic. It started out that I was looking to rescue a dog but one that didn't shed, and it has turned into an absolute devotion to the breed.

I like poodles of all sizes, from the tiniest to the largest. As a petite woman, my 2 toys are the perfect size for me. But all sizes share the same level of intelligence -- second only to the border collie.

I'm tired of poodles getting a bad rap, so it's refreshing to see some FReeper FRiends singing their praises!

I like your poodles, they all have great faces and eyes. You can find some other rankings that put the poodle 1 and the border collie 2. They're always 1 and 2 though, some people think that overall the border collie is a little overrated as it gets most of it's credit for being a great herder.
