Bob is getting a new PUPPY!! Pictures included of 6 week old puppy, I take him home at 9 weeks.

Posted on 01/24/2007 3:42:37 PM PST by word_warrior_bob

Jakey is getting a baby brother! Feel free to give me name ideas, pure bred Standard Poodle, champion bloodlines, I got him here, http://www.parrishill.com/

I read you shouldn't take the biggest or smallest of the litter, but I also read how to "test" a puppy. Even though he's the smallest puppy he was relaxed when I held him, relaxed when I put him in the cruk of my arm and looked me in the eyes for a long time. He was alert and looked when I clapped and he was the only one who cocked his head to say "what" when I talked to him. He held his own with the other puppies without being too rambunctous. He allowed me to hold him out with no other support and didn't squirm and looked me in the eyes, he allowed me to put him on his back and played and swatted at my fingers. He did all the right things you want from a puppy except he was the "runt" of the litter. I was assured that there should only be a difference in height of all the puppies of about 2 inches anyway. I'll post more pictures when I get him in 3 weeks, in the interm I will visit and handle him as much as possible so that the move is less stressful for him. On to the pictures!

For call name "Sonny", you could have ParrisHill Good Day Sunshine (what izzit with all this old rock 'n' roll stuff, anyhow? Probably because I was looking up all those old song titles naming my dog.)

Well, I had a Monkees poster on my bedroom wall, does that count?

(Along with Donovan and the Who. Figure that one out. Call me eclectic I guess.)

That is a BEAUTIFUL dog!

_____

That's my Jake. I hope Sonny (I think) grows up to look just like him.

That dog of yours is a monster, or you weigh like 85 pounds!! How much does that dog weigh?

I'm still learning about all these "names" the Ch. in front of them (champion?)

I will tell my breeder to use the name you suggested, it's great. I can even sing it to him in the morning, Good Day Sunshine, Good Day Sunshine, I'll need someone to harmonize with me. Doesn't the next line in the lyric say something about a walk!?

Tinker weighed something over 150 in that picture, but he's bigger now. Mastiffs go through a phase, when they're growing, when they look a lot like Great Danes, all long bones.

Tinker stands beside the dining room table, and without lifting his chin, can look over the whole thing. He's huge, but still a bit slimmer than he will be when full grown. The nice thing is his behavior.

I love standard poodles. They are the most beautiful dogs--and smart as anything, too. We'll probably get another American Mastiff in a year or so, but the poodles are my next favorites, because of their brains and beauty.

The only problem with Good Day Sunshine is it doesn't pick up his dad's name. But that may not matter, or it can go in the prefix. Our first dog's breeder always puts her kennel name first, then a made-up name from the sire and dam, then the name of the individual dog. So our first dog's full name is (wait for it) . . .

SHR Sumo's CoDoz Brown Bombshell, AX, AXJ.

Sumo is the kennel name, her parents were Coco and Dozer (Coco Storm and Black Bordeaux). Her front title is Started Hunting Retriever, her back titles are Agility Excellent and Agility Excellent (Jumpers With Weaves).

Now, about titles . . . .

In AKC (the largest registry) some titles go in front, and some go behind. The one you will almost always see in front is "Ch." for Champion, that's a Conformation title. There are others, including performance titles, such as FC for Field Champion (for a retriever, winner of a National Stake or 10 points in All-Age) or MACH for Master Agility Champion.

Other performance titles go behind the name - in herding, agility, obedience, tracking, etc.

Here is The Official AKC Title List. It's interactive, and you can toggle back and forth between prefix and suffix titles.

Shelley's front end title is from another association, the United Kennel Club Hunting Retriever Club. Her two suffix titles are AKC. She is definitely NOT a conformation dog -- she couldn't win a single championship point in a show ring, bless her heart, she's too little, too skinny, and her head is too pointy.

But she's a great little dog!

Good Day Sunshine

Lennon/McCartney

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

I need to laugh, and when the sun is out
I've got something I can laugh about
I feel good, in a special way
I'm in love and it's a sunny day

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

We take a walk, the sun is shining down
Burns my feet as they touch the ground

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

Then we lie beneath a shady tree
I love her and she's loving me
She feels good, she know she's looking fine
I'm so proud to know that she is mine

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

I'll get back and post here tonight

Dogs, horses, and a Brahma steer that thought he was a horse.....

Some animals are so much more human than many people are.

It's a shame those animals do not live longer.

I'm emailing the link to this thread out in a minute -

Congratulations on your new addition to the family. Although I feel really stupid because my post at first was going to ask why it took so long for you to take it home. Second I answered my question and did not realize that dogs were fed by their mother... Well heck I never said I was the smartest guy in the world.

I also have a Brittany Spaniel. I got the runt of the litter of 9. He is the most wonderful dog I have ever owned. I think, like people, some things are inbred, but a lot has to do with how he is raised.

Best of luck to you on your new pup.

Lol, I once had a Banty Rooster that wanted in the house at night. He would sit up on the windowsill when we came inside!

It's a cute song . . . I was never a Beatles fan when I was younger (that was my best friend's job), but they kinda grow on you.

Hope that the name fits!
