January 23, 2007, Tuesday, DABBLE

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Tomorrow I’m bringing in chains, so beware.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

DABBLE

Pronunciation: da-‘bul
Function: Verb
Etymology: perhaps frequentative of 2dab (a little dab will do ya?)

transitive verb:

1: To wet by splashing or by little dips or strokes : SPATTER

intransitive verb

1 a : To paddle, splash, or play in or as if in water b : to reach with the bill to the bottom of shallow water in order to obtain food
2 : To work or involve oneself superficially or intermittently especially in a secondary activity or interest

WFTDers are the best dabblers in the whole wide world. Now get to work!

Actually I chuckled because as i was reading it I heard something at the front door.......one of the cats had climbed up it more than half way and was hanging on for dear life..........and then I saw why. We've had a problem with a large stray dog roaming around of late, but it's never to be found when animal control shows up........nor when hubby has the .22 loaded.

The .22 I had as a young teen was an 18 round semi auto. One new neighbor freaked out the first time she heard it and called the cops saing someone was shooting a machine gun. Cops came, laughed and told her I was OK. She was a witch, and called the cops on me a lot, until the chief paid her a visit and told her to stop.

I wonder why her house got the worst of it for halloween. Hmmmm.
