January 23, 2007, Tuesday, DABBLE

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Tomorrow I’m bringing in chains, so beware.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

DABBLE

Pronunciation: da-‘bul
Function: Verb
Etymology: perhaps frequentative of 2dab (a little dab will do ya?)

transitive verb:

1: To wet by splashing or by little dips or strokes : SPATTER

intransitive verb

1 a : To paddle, splash, or play in or as if in water b : to reach with the bill to the bottom of shallow water in order to obtain food
2 : To work or involve oneself superficially or intermittently especially in a secondary activity or interest

WFTDers are the best dabblers in the whole wide world. Now get to work!

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School! Yes, we’re all here. No lumpen today.

RULES: You must use the WFTD in a sentence for an A. For a + after your “A,” you must bring in a link of the word usage or something funny, a poem or some prose that will elucidate the word for us.

If you need to know how to link, come to the Subbie’s desk in the front of the class.

There's no morning here yet. It's as dark as dark can be seen. Remember, I'm two or three hours behind the East Coast.

You are Numero Uno, though!

Good morning, Gabz!

Hope the ice storm turned away from you!

You are Numero Tres.

What is this: xsmommy, Secret Garden and you as the three first, second and third prize members. Something is amiss.

and since you were concerned about my whereabouts yesterday afternoon, i was over here-- asserting our rights to fully "vet" candidates for the republican nomination for president, to investigate the sincerity of their views, to disagree vehemently that Reagan's 11th commandment applies during the PRIMARY season and to affirmatively assert that prolifers are not ignorant little political naifs. that's all : )

Yeah! Top 5.

I sincerely hope the nation learns not to dabble in b*tchcraft or other dark arts used by the dems.

Why do the 11th Commandment invokers always wind up trying to tear down Reagan to build up their candidate de jour? It's (almost) enough to make me want to vote for Missus Clinton just to spite em.

Good Morning!

The lumpen, hoi polloi, and the rabble,
Are the beneficiaries of a hard scrabble,
They depend on the king,
So they're there in the ring,
Of the politics where we only dabble.

I've read about it. TB is a pain because most people need to be on meds for a long time. Compliance is an especially big problem when most cases here are among illegals.
